What is a medical software remote?

A medical software remote job involves working with healthcare-related software applications from a location outside of a traditional office, often from home. These roles can include software development, technical support, quality assurance, implementation, or training for medical records, billing, imaging, or telehealth platforms. Remote employees use secure internet connections and specialized software to collaborate with healthcare providers and teams. The goal is to improve patient care, data management, and operational efficiency in medical settings.

Both roles overlap in industry and credentials but differ in daily tasks and work settings.

What are common challenges faced by professionals working remotely in medical software roles?

Professionals in remote medical software roles often encounter challenges such as maintaining effective communication with clinical teams and ensuring data security while working outside of traditional healthcare environments. Coordinating across time zones with cross-functional teams, staying compliant with healthcare regulations, and troubleshooting technical issues without on-site IT support are also frequent hurdles. Successful remote workers in this field typically develop strong digital collaboration skills and proactively stay updated on industry standards and privacy requirements to overcome these challenges.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a medical software remote professional?

To thrive as a Medical Software Remote professional, you need a solid background in software development, healthcare IT knowledge, and ideally a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, HL7/FHIR standards, and relevant certifications like Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) are often required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and self-motivation are essential soft skills for collaborating with distributed teams and addressing client needs remotely. These skills ensure reliable, secure, and user-friendly medical software solutions that meet regulatory standards and enhance patient care.

Job description

About Cleerly

We're Cleerly – a healthcare company that's revolutionizing how heart disease is diagnosed, treated, and tracked. We were founded in 2017 by one of the world's leading cardiologists and are a growing team of world-class engineering, operations, medical affairs, marketing, and sales leaders. We raised $223M in Series C funding in 2022 which has enabled rapid growth and continued support of our mission. In December 2024 we received an additional $106M in a Series C extension funding. Most of our teams work remotely and have access to our offices in Denver, Colorado, New, York, New York, Dallas, Texas, and Lisbon, Portugal with some roles requiring you to be on-site in a location.

Cleerly has created a new standard of care for heart disease through value-based, AI-driven precision diagnostic solutions with the goal of helping prevent heart attacks. Our technology goes beyond traditional measures of heart disease by enabling comprehensive quantification and characterization of atherosclerosis, or plaque buildup, in each of the heart arteries. Cleerly's solutions are supported by more than a decade of performing some of the world's largest clinical trials to identify important findings beyond symptoms that increase a person's risk of heart attacks.

At Cleerly, we collaborate digitally and use a wide variety of systems. Our people use Google Workspace (GMail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides), Slack, Confluence/Jira, and Zoom Video, prior experience in these areas is a plus. Role or department specific technology needs may vary and will be listed as requirements in the job description.

While we are mostly a remote company, travel is required for some team meetings and cross function projects typically once per month or once per quarter, for some roles like sales or external facing roles travel could be up to 90% of the time.
Cleerly is committed to providing safe and effective medical software that meets customer needs and our intended use. The adherence to all applicable regulatory and statutory requirements establishes a clear framework for setting measurable quality objectives. Our commitment to continually improving our products and processes proactively manages risks, ensuring ongoing compliance throughout the entire software lifecycle. Understanding this role's relevance and importance is critical to achieving Cleerly's quality objectives.

About the Opportunity

At Cleerly, we're revolutionizing cardiovascular care with cutting-edge, AI-powered diagnostic solutions. Our work is meaningful, and we see its life-changing impact every day. We put people first, challenge the status quo, and deliver remarkable results that change lives. Together, we're building a new standard of precision heart care to create a world without heart attacks and improve patient outcomes.

  • Conduct code reviews, mentor teammates, and raise the technical bar across the team.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to post-incident reviews to drive long-term reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 8–12 years of professional software engineering experience, with deep fullstack expertise.
  • Strong background in frontend frameworks (React, TypeScript) and backend services (Node.js, PostgreSQL).
  • Proven success designing and shipping scalable enterprise-facing features in production environments.
  • Skilled at mentorship, technical reviews, and driving architecture decisions.
  • Strong systems thinking and ability to weigh tradeoffs in performance, maintainability, and compliance.
  • Familiarity with observability tooling (logs, alerts, dashboards) and operational best practices.
  • Prior experience in healthcare, fintech, or other regulated industries.
  • Exposure to event-driven architecture and integrations with 3rd-party platforms.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native environments (Docker, AWS ECS/EKS, CI/CD pipelines, IaC).
