Job Description:

The Surgery Scheduler/Medical Assistant plays a dual role in supporting both the administrative and clinical functions of the surgical practice. This position is responsible for coordinating surgical procedures, ensuring accuracy in scheduling, obtaining necessary authorizations, and serving as a key liaison between patients, physicians, hospitals, and surgical centers. Additionally, the role provides clinical and administrative support in the office setting, assisting providers with patient care and maintaining efficient clinic operations
Position Highlights:
  • Full Time:40 Hours/Week
  • Hours:Monday-Friday, typically 8:00am - 4:30pm
  • Location:Schaumburg
Responsibilities
  • Greet patients in a friendly manner whether on the phone or in person.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal physicians and with scheduling staff at facilities.
  • Verify patient personal and insurance information -- coordinate pre-op testing per insurance.
  • Single point-of-contact for internal staff and external inquiries for all scheduled procedures.
  • Schedule and/or reschedule pre-op lab and/or other testing before procedures and surgeries if necessary.
  • Contact patient to confirm procedure/surgery.
  • Explain and verify proper prep instructions with patients, route to nurse if appropriate.
  • Prepare all essential paperwork for referral coordinator and facilities.
  • Verify daily doctor's schedules, print and distribute to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain the strictest patient confidentiality.
  • Work with billing staff to ensure all procedures are charged.
  • Cover/fill-in for co-workers as needed.
  • Track case volume and direct cases to facilities per direction of management team
Qualifications
  • Medical terminology, verbal and written.
  • CPT and ICD-9 coding.
  • Referral process.
  • Must have the ability to learn new computer programs.
  • Act professionally towards customers, physicians, and co-workers.
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize.
  • Must posses time management skills.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2+ years prior surgery scheduling, telephone, computer and customer service experience.
The compensation for this role includes a base pay range of $16.30-24.50/hour, with the actual pay determined by factors such as skills, experience, education, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. Additional compensation may be available through shift differentials, bonuses, and other incentives. Base pay is only a portion of the total rewards package.
