The Medical Assistant/ Surgery Scheduler is responsible for facilitating patient flow and obtaining pertinent information. The MA/Surgery Scheduler will communicate, observe reports, and document patient response/condition, prepare lab/x-ray results, set up/stock exam rooms, and conduct patient call backs. Thoroughly and accurately obtain chief complaint and pertinent information from patient. Communicates information to health care provider.
Medical Assistant/ Surgery Schedulers ensure and facilitate patient flow. They perform set-up and assist physician/PA/NP with procedures and examinations. Observes patients and reports changes in patient condition. Documents patient care, response to care, and telephone contact. Prepares lab and X-ray results for physician review. Sets up and re-stocks exam room. Prepares and processes instruments. Participates in patient call-backs. Correctly input patient information into EHR. Will be responsible for insurance verification and will process insurance authorizations. Schedule procedures at various locations according to provider protocols. Book, coordinate and reschedule patient appointments regarding surgeries or tests. Contact referring physician offices regarding referrals. Verifies necessary demographic and clinical information in computer system. Maintains and updates current information on physicians' schedules, ensuring that patients are scheduled properly. Other duties as assigned.
Ability to speak and read English at a level that is sufficient to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the position. Knowledge of standard office equipment (i.e., calculator, fax, photocopier) and personal computer and computer software skills (i.e., MS Windows, Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, internet, e-mail). Windows computer skills including proficient use of keyboarding, use of mouse or keys for functions such as selecting items, use of drop-down menus, scroll bars, opening folders, copying and similar operations required upon employment or within the 1st two weeks of employment to perform the essential functions of the job. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows Palomar Health rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws, and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, and quality commitment of Palomar Health.
Job Requirements
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED, Successful completion of Medical Assistant Certificate program with relevant front and back-office experience
Preferred Education: N/A
Minimum Experience: 0-6 months related experience
Preferred Experience: 2 years clinical back-office experience preferred.
Required License: N/A
Preferred License: Certified CA State Medical Assistant
Required Certification: American Heart Association recognized BLS - Heart saver
