Job description

Electro-Mechanical, LLC is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Federal Pacific Transformer (FPT) division in Bristol, VA. In this role, you will design and develop mechanical components and systems for our power distribution products, ensuring manufacturability, quality, and performance in a fast-paced production environment.

This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented professional with strong mechanical design skills and a passion for precision engineering to make a tangible impact on innovative, American-made electrical equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and draft transformer components, enclosures, and assemblies using AutoCAD and Solid Edge, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and manufacturability.

  • Translate engineering concepts and customer requirements into detailed mechanical drawings, models, and bills of materials (BOMs).

  • Collaborate closely with senior engineers, production, and quality teams to resolve design challenges and ensure seamless handoff from design to manufacturing.

  • Participate in order reviews, cost analyses, and project planning to ensure designs meet technical, schedule, and budget requirements.

  • Support the quote and order development process by preparing accurate design information and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Review drawings and designs with senior and lead engineers before release, ensuring all safety, quality, and performance standards are met.

  • Interact daily with manufacturing teams to communicate design intent, support troubleshooting, and identify opportunities for process or product improvement.

  • Contribute to cost-reduction initiatives and continuous improvement projects that enhance product efficiency and reliability.

  • Ensure timely completion of assigned jobs in alignment with master production schedules and department goals.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree (two-year technical degree) in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting and Design, or a related field.

  • Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, drafting, or product development within a manufacturing or industrial setting.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Solid Edge, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and mechanical tolerances.

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, error-free drawings.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to clearly convey design concepts to engineers, shop personnel, and customers.

  • Proven problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to design challenges.

  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or familiarity with electrical-mechanical integration is a plus.

  • Willingness to work overtime or adjust schedules as project demands require.

EMC expects that every team member will be guided by EMC's Guiding Principles.
