Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Design Engineer for a full-time, 6-month contract assignment with the potential to transition into a permanent full-time role. This position is ideal for an engineer with 2-3 years of mechanical design experience who enjoys hands-on product development, prototyping, and supporting customer-facing demonstrations.

The successful candidate will partner closely with a Principal Design Engineer to build, maintain, and optimize commercial demo kits used by our Sales and Commercial teams. This individual will ensure demonstration systems are assembled, tested, organized, and ready for shipment at all times, while also contributing to mechanical design and engineering activities.

Experience in the medical device industry is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Principal Design Engineer to assemble and maintain commercial demonstration kits.
  • Support the design, fabrication, testing, and refinement of mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Ensure demo kits are fully functional, properly organized, and available for rapid deployment to commercial teams.
  • Coordinate packing, inventory management, and shipment preparation of demonstration equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and implement design improvements to enhance demo reliability and usability.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, assembly instructions, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Assist with prototyping, validation testing, and product development activities as needed.
  • Manage inventory of demo components, replacement parts, and supplies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace for demo kit assembly and storage.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Product Management, and Commercial teams to support product demonstrations and customer engagements.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 2-3 years of mechanical engineering, product design, or design engineering experience.
  • Experience using CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience building and testing assemblies.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in the medical device industry.
  • Experience supporting prototypes, demonstration systems, or low-volume assemblies.
  • Familiarity with design controls, documentation, and regulated product development environments.
  • Experience with inventory management and logistics coordination.

Work Environment

This role combines engineering design work with hands-on assembly, testing, and operational support. The ideal candidate enjoys working both at a desk and in a lab/workshop environment and takes pride in delivering high-quality demonstration systems that represent the company's products to customers and stakeholders.

Employment Type

  • Full-time contractor
  • Initial 6-month assignment
  • Potential for conversion to a full-time employee based on performance and business needs

Success in This Role

Success will be measured by the ability to:

  • Maintain demonstration kits in a constant state of readiness.
  • Deliver high-quality, reliable demo systems to support commercial activities.
  • Partner effectively with the Principal Design Engineer.
  • Contribute to ongoing product and process improvements.
  • Support a seamless customer and commercial demonstration experience.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer looking to gain hands-on experience in product development, medical devices, and commercial product support while working closely with senior engineering leadership.
