Job description

You will serve as an INSTRUMENT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR in code 137.1, the Calibration Laboratory Branch Region Metrology Division, Quality Assurance Office of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.Qualifications:Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below.
This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE.

  • Ability to lead a team in applying advanced analytical and problem-solving techniques to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex operational deficiencies in instrumentation and control systems.

  • Ability to plan, assign, and review the work of subordinate mechanics, ensuring that technical documentation, schematics, and engineering drawings are correctly interpreted and applied for accurate testing and calibration.

  • Ability to oversee and validate complex mathematical computations and technical calculations performed by the team to ensure the accuracy and integrity of test data and results.

  • Ability to manage the preparation and approval of comprehensive technical documentation, including ensuring all team reports and certificates of calibration comply with organizational and industry standards.

  • Ability to communicate technical, administrative, and personnel-related information effectively to subordinates, management, engineers, and customers to coordinate work, resolve complex issues, and represent the team.
