Job description
The Department of Mathematics seeks applications throughout the year from individuals who are interested in a non-tenure track, temporary adjunct teaching assignment. A research component is not required.
Applications will be reviewed when a vacancy occurs.
Instructors must hold a M.S. degree in Mathematics or closely related area and are typically hired on a semester bases or for 9-months or more, and can be either part-time or full-time depending on departmental instructor need, student enrollment numbers, and funding.
Assistant Professor appointments must hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics or related area and are typically hired for 9-month period or more, and can be either part-time or full-time, depending on departmental instructor need, student enrollment numbers, and funding.
Adjunct faculty will be 100% teaching, with no expectation of conducting research or service.
Full Consideration Date
To ensure full consideration, applications must be received by 11:59 p.m. (MT) on August 31, 2027.
Essential Job Duties
Teach a breadth of undergraduate mathematics courses.
- Prepare and present lessons as outlined in the course syllabi.
- Hold weekly office hours available to all students.
- Participate in group reviews prior to all exams.
- Administer and grade course exams up to 4 times per semester.
Attend course coordinator meetings.
- Efficient and professional use of Content Management System (currently Canvas).
- Efficient and professional management of communications with all enrolled students.
- Follow Student Disability Center guidelines for qualified students.
- Turn in grade and syllabus to front office undergraduate coordinator at the conclusion of the semester
Conditions of Employment

Supervision
This position reports to the department chair.
Minimum Qualifications
- Instructor requirements: M.S. in Mathematics or closely related areas and 2 years previous university teaching experience.
OR
- Non-tenure track Assistant Professor requirements: Ph.D. in Mathematics or closely related areas and 3 years previous university teaching experience.
- Successful candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date; Mathematics will not provide visa sponsorship for these positions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching a wide variety of lower division (100-300 level) undergraduate mathematics courses which may include pre-calculus courses and any of the calculus series courses.
- Experience preparing and presenting lessons as outlined in the course syllabus, as well as manage homework assignments, exams, and communications.
- Experience with pedagogy in teaching, using labs, flipped classrooms, smart technologies, and inquiry based learning methods.
- Experience teaching large sections (greater than 75 students) in a variety of calculus classes and above.
- Experience coordinating large mathematics service courses in the calculus series and above.
