Department Summary

The University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas) is part of the University of North Texas System, which also includes UNT Denton and UNT Health Fort Worth. UNT Dallas, which is a standalone university in southern Dallas, invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Mathematics, beginning Fall 2026. This tenure-track position is being offered at the Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate will be expected to achieve excellence in teaching and to participate in continued development of the UNT Dallas Department of Mathematics (Future: Department of STEM and Pre-Health Studies), which offers a B.A. with Secondary Teacher Certification and a B.S. in Mathematics.

Position Overview

Expectations for tenure-track faculty at UNT Dallas include excellent teaching, research, and service, resulting in contributions equivalent to a four-course load each semester. This workload expectation can be fulfilled through a combination of teaching, high-quality research and scholarship, service, and program development. Faculty are also expected to participate in such service activities as curriculum development, student recruiting and advising, program assessment, and committee leadership.
The ideal candidate will be committed to advancing UNT Dallas's Classroom to Career initiative-an innovative effort that bridges academic achievement and career readiness. This includes strengthening industry partnerships, embedding experiential learning (such as internships, research, and service learning) into the curriculum, integrating career and character competencies, and fostering AI fluency and essential power skills like communication, adaptability, teamwork, and leadership. The candidate should also support the development of new academic programs aligned with workforce needs and pathways to family-sustaining careers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

We are particularly interested in student-centric, innovative, and energetic candidates who can help lead the development of UNT Dallas's Department of Mathematics through program development, student recruitment, and community outreach. We seek an experienced leader and Mathematician who can contribute to the Mathematics program by teaching a range of mathematics courses. This new faculty member is expected to develop an active research program with undergraduates and will also be responsible for advising student organizations and developing courses and programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics.
  • Experience in using high impact teaching practices.
  • Demonstrated research productivity.
  • Experience supervising undergraduate research students.
  • Experience in curriculum development and developing interdisciplinary degree programs.
  • Experience in building and supervising student organizations.
  • Experience in developing and implementing STEM related service learning in curricular and co-curricular settings, and implementing activities that enable students to move from classroom to career.
  • Academic experience working with a wide-ranging student population.
