Job Summary:
Apple Pi Education is seeking a Mathematics Instructional Coach to provide research-based coaching and professional development to instructional staff in K-12 schools. The role focuses on implementing high-level instructional strategies aligned with the California Content Standards, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) eight mathematical teaching practices, and the Student Math Practice Standards. The ideal candidate is passionate about improving student outcomes, fostering deep mathematical understanding, and supporting teachers through comprehensive coaching cycles and professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and deliver school-based, research-driven coaching cycles and professional development to instructional staff, including teachers, instructional aides, coordinators, and administrators.
  • Support the implementation of California's State Content Mathematics Standards and the Math Practice Standards for grades K-12.
  • Work closely with school administrators to coordinate and schedule coaching sessions, adjusting to school needs and providing timely follow-up.
  • Implement and support the use of problem-based curricula, small group instruction, differentiated instruction, and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).
  • Facilitate continuous improvement through the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle and monitor growth using data from assessments such as iREADY diagnostics and summative assessments.
  • Analyze student performance data to inform coaching and professional development and report progress and trends.
  • Provide culturally and linguistically responsive teaching strategies to support diverse learners, including English Learners, Foster Youth, Low-Income students, and Students with Disabilities.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics or Education.
  • Teaching certification/credential is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in K-12 mathematics, with a focus on high-leverage strategies and student-centered instruction.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in instructional coaching or delivering professional development.
  • Proven track record of supporting diverse learners and implementing differentiated instruction.
  • Knowledge of the California State Mathematics Standards, NCTM's eight mathematical teaching practices, and the Student Math Practice Standards.
  • Experience using formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and monitor student progress.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and computer software for data collection and reporting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with school leaders, teachers, and instructional staff.
  • A steadfast belief that all children can learn, regardless of background or challenges.
Bonus Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Education, or a related field.
  • Higher education teaching experience in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience working in large, diverse school districts such as Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).
  • Experience with classroom observations, reflection, and the continuous improvement process.
  • Familiarity with virtual coaching methods and platforms.
  • Expertise in implementing multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) in mathematics.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Conducting on-site and virtual coaching sessions to enhance teachers' understanding of mathematical content and instructional strategies.
  • Monitoring and documenting progress in instructional practices and student performance using pre- and post-assessments.
  • Aligning professional development to the specific needs of instructional staff, adapting content to roles such as teachers, instructional aides, and administrators.
  • Providing monthly reports summarizing coaching activities, feedback, and progress toward goals.
  • Supporting schools in implementing effective and culturally responsive mathematics instruction.

Compensation:
Competitive compensation package commensurate with experience and qualifications, reflective of a consultant contract (1099) role.
