Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join Gardner-Webb wrestling program as an Assistant Wrestling Coach. The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Head Coach to enhance the overall performance, skill development, and success of our student-athletes. This role requires a strong understanding of wrestling techniques, effective coaching strategies, and a passion for developing athletes both on and off the mat.


Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Head Coach to design and implement comprehensive training programs that focus on improving wrestling skills, physical conditioning, and mental toughness.
  • Assist in planning and conducting daily practice sessions, including warm-ups, drills, technique training, and live wrestling scenarios.
  • Provide individualized coaching and feedback to student-athletes, addressing technical areas for improvement and strategic adjustments.
  • Attend and contribute to coaches' meetings, strategy discussions, and game plan development to ensure a cohesive team approach.
  • Assist in recruitment efforts by scouting and evaluating potential student-athletes, attending high school wrestling tournaments, and building relationships with prospects.
  • Contribute to creating a positive and inclusive team culture that emphasizes discipline, sportsmanship, respect, and teamwork.
  • Monitor the academic progress and well-being of student-athletes, providing support and guidance to help them excel both academically and athletically.
  • Aid in organizing team travel, competitions, and logistics, ensuring smooth operations during the wrestling season.
  • Collaborate with strength and conditioning staff to develop and execute effective fitness programs tailored to wrestlers' needs.
  • Participate in community outreach activities, promotional events, and camps to engage with the local wrestling community and enhance the program's visibility.
  • Adhere to all NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations, maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution (Master's degree preferred).
  • Previous coaching experience Preferred. Either at the high school, collegiate, or club level, with a strong background in wrestling techniques and strategies.
  • Excellent understanding of wrestling fundamentals, tactics, and training methodologies.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with athletes, coaching staff, and administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate athletes to achieve their full potential.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations related to collegiate wrestling.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for managing practice plans, schedules, and team logistics.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel for competitions.
  • Emphasis on sportsmanship, leadership, and positive character development.
