Job Description

Position: Material Planner

Location: Salt Lake City, UT   

Duration:6+ Month Contract Position 

POSITION SUMMARY 

Reporting to the Materials Team Leader, the Planner schedules product lines to meet changing monthly forecasts while managing inventory levels and schedules. Reviews and acts upon order release, action exception messages generated, and coordinates Bills of Materials in an MRP environment. 

CAREER PROGRESSION 

This role is a critical development step for more senior roles. A typical career progression may look like the following:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

Creates long range production schedules for assigned brands utilizing forecasted requirements in MPS, JDE, LMS, taking into account inventory and customer service goals/targets. 

Reviews daily sales activity for assigned brands in all Logistics Centers (LCs) and adjusts short term production schedules to minimize risk of service issues. 

Places releases with supplies for components and raw materials against contracts set up by Corporate Purchasing. 

Follows the plant Quality Systems Procedures (QSPs), related SOPs, control plans and work instructions to maintain compliance with ISO requirements. 

Manages FG and raw/packaging inventory levels to meet corporate, plant and individual goals. 

Coordinates with LCs suppliers, and appropriate plant personnel to meet month end targets. Recommends changes to procedures and work plans to improve overall management of inventory with objective of reducing inventory without increasing the risk of customer service issues. 

Maintains data accuracy within the ERP system on an as needed basis. This includes ensuring BOMs are accurate, scrap factors are set-up, supplier lead times, order quantity strategies and production run size information is up-to-date. 

Responds to exception messages that direct changes to MPS or MRP to achieve required service and inventory goals. 

Maintains appropriate records as required by SOPs to ensure compliance with ISO standards. 

Maintains strong working relationships with all departments within the plant and with all external customers and suppliers. 

Manages obsolescence for assigned brands to minimize the financial exposure to the business caused by a change to an existing product or discontinued product. 

Supplies DRP as necessary to support the outbound shipping of finished goods by the plant Logistics dept. Communicates "hot" load information to all affected parties, both within the plant and at the LCs. Interfaces with the LCs to prioritize shipments. 

Monitors, tracks and makes work order adjustments in the ERP system to ensure reporting of design configuration variance is accurate. Forecasts expected DCV basis planned projects and identifies when there are issues impacting achieving the DCV goal. 

Manages all EPD projects to ensure launches occur on schedule for assigned brands. Participates in NPD projects to ensure the planning responsibilities are covered for new product launches. 

Actively supports and participates in the plant objective to foster a self-managed team-based environment. 

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Materials Manager. 


SKILLS & ABILITIES 

Associates degree or equivalent job experience 

2 - 4 years of actual hands on MRP planning, scheduling implementation or related system knowledge. A good understanding of production operations. 

Knowledge of Belle Mead Quality System Procedure, related SOP's and work instructions 

Effective Communication Skills (Mutual Understanding & Support) 

Project Management 

Effective Team Dynamics Skills
