Material Coordinator
Location: Hammond, IN (Hybrid)
About the Opportunity
RHI Magnesita is seeking a highly organized and customer-focused Material Coordinator to support our Steel business. In this role, you will serve as the critical link between our customers, Sales team, Supply Chain, Logistics, and Operations, ensuring refractory materials are available when and where they are needed.
The Material Coordinator plays a key role in inventory management, material planning, logistics coordination, and customer support. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced industrial environment, enjoys solving problems, and takes pride in delivering exceptional service to both internal and external stakeholders.
What You'll Do
  • Manage and coordinate refractory material inventories to support steel manufacturing customers.
  • Translate customer demand forecasts into material requirements and communicate needs to production facilities.
  • Monitor inventory levels, consumption patterns, and forecasts to maintain optimal stock levels while minimizing shortages and excess inventory.
  • Create, track, and manage purchase requisitions, transfer orders, and replenishment requests.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and transactions within ERP systems such as SAP.
  • Investigate and reconcile inventory discrepancies to ensure data integrity.
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments with production plants, warehouses, logistics providers, and transportation partners.
  • Process shipment documentation, customer invoices, and monthly consignment reports.
  • Ensure material availability for planned outages, maintenance activities, and emergency requirements.
  • Communicate material status, delivery schedules, and potential supply constraints to customers and internal teams.
  • Quickly resolve shipping issues, delivery delays, shortages, and damaged material concerns.
  • Track and report inventory performance, material risks, and usage trends.
  • Partner closely with Sales, Operations, Supply Chain, and Site Services teams to support customer needs and business objectives.
  • Proactively identify risks and implement solutions before they impact customer operations.

What You Bring
  • 2+ years of experience in materials coordination, inventory management, supply chain, logistics, or related field.
  • Experience working within manufacturing, industrial, steel, metals, or refractory environments preferred.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, preferably SAP.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and spreadsheet management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently while collaborating across functional teams.
  • Experience with forecasting, invoicing, shipping coordination, and inventory control processes is preferred.
  • Familiarity with refractory products, industrial consumables, or raw materials is a plus.
