Job Summary

The Junior Manufacturing Software Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining software and reports specifically used in manufacturing environments. This role focuses on maintaining, upgrading, and redeveloping existing applications that control and interact with customized fixtures or instruments. The ideal candidate should have experience and knowledge of MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) and be capable of integrating paperless workflows, automating data collection, and improving visualization and quality control in the manufacturing process. The candidate should have a strong understanding of shop floor process applications. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams and management to design and develop custom manufacturing software applications, using preferred languages such as VC++, C#, Java, and Python.

Additionally, your expertise will be applied in visualizing process metrics through reports and live dashboards.

You will also spend time on the production floor, assisting with troubleshooting software, workstations, and network-related issues.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain software applications and databases that support manufacturing in a variety of languages VC++, C#, Java, Python, MySQL, Tableau
  • Oversee the day-to-day administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance, and ongoing support of the MES system
  • Create documentation for software usage, maintenance, and other requirements
  • Work closely with management, engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to design and develop intuitive custom applications to reduce downtime, maintain regulatory compliance, and improve productivity
  • Create and execute advanced SQL queries to produce process metrics, reports, and live dashboards
  • Liaison for manufacturing and Corporate IT for project implementation
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, Information Technology, or relevant degree
  • Minimum 2 years of programming experience, preferably at least 1 year of programming experience in a manufacturing environment
Preferred
  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio
  • Experience with VS Code
  • Experience with VC++, C#, Python
  • Experience with RDBMS such as MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc
  • Experience with SAP and Tableau
  • Experience with development process tools such as Git, GitHub, GitLab and Jira
Working Conditions
  • Work will primarily take place on the production floor (70%) but also in office or laboratory environments
  • 85% of the time will be dedicated to supporting existing/legacy manufacturing software, with 15% focused on supporting new MES development. (Note: The time spent on new MES development will gradually increase as the new system phases out the legacy system)
  • Must be able to sit or stand at a workstation or work cell for the duration of a full work shift
  • Occasionally required to lift to 40 pounds

  • Compensation: The compensation range is tied to the market for similarly bench-marked roles. The range is not an absolute, but a guide, and offers will be based on the individual candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience and market conditions, as well as internal peer equity. Depending upon all the preceding considerations for the final selected individual candidate, the offer may be lower or higher than the stated range: $78,000 - $90,000
