Job description

Manufacturing Automation EngineerJoin Millennium Print Group as a Manufacturing Automation Engineer IC2!

We are seeking a Manufacturing Automation Engineer IC2 to drive automation innovation across our printing, finishing, packaging, and warehouse operations in Raleigh, NC. This role leads full lifecycle automation projects and supports Industry 4.0 initiatives in a fast-paced, high-security manufacturing environment.

Location: Durham, NC
Schedule: Full-Time, Onsite

What You'll Do:
  • Lead full lifecycle automation projects (planning, design, programming, testing, deployment, stabilization)

  • Design and implement PLC, HMI, robotics, motion control, SCADA, and vision systems

  • Develop project scope, timelines, budgets, risk registers, and business cases

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams across Engineering, IT, Operations, Safety, Quality, and Procurement

  • Manage vendors, system integrators, and external contractors

  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)

  • Improve OEE, reduce downtime, increase throughput, and enhance product quality

  • Ensure compliance with ANSI, OSHA, EPA, ISO, and internal safety standards

  • Align automation initiatives with MES/ERP systems and Industry 4.0 strategies

  • Drive continuous improvement, root cause analysis, and digital transformation efforts


What You'll Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical, Automation, or Mechatronics Engineering (or related field)

  • 3+ years of project management experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience with PLC/HMI programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms)

  • Knowledge of robotics (pick-and-place, palletizing, case packing), motion control, AMRs/AGVs, conveyors, WMS, MES, VFDs, and sensors

  • Experience managing contractors and automation integrators

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project or related project management tools

  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Experience in a 24/7 manufacturing environment preferred

  • PMP certification preferred

  • Exposure to AI-driven automation solutions is a plus
