FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Pay Range: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour
Position Summary
Hayes Pump, the largest industrial, commercial, and municipal pump distributor in the Northeast, is seeking a Foreman to lead our growing New Jersey service operation.
This position combines technical pump expertise with leadership responsibilities, overseeing daily service operations, coordinating technician schedules, supporting customers, and ensuring high-quality repair and maintenance services. The ideal candidate is an experienced pump mechanic who is ready to take the next step into leadership while remaining actively involved in service operations and technical problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support service technicians and shop personnel.
  • Coordinate daily schedules, work assignments, and service priorities.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for pump repair and troubleshooting activities.
  • Oversee shop operations and field service activities to ensure quality, efficiency, and safety.
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and developing service team members.
  • Participate in hiring decisions and support department growth initiatives.
  • Prepare service packages, work orders, and documentation using company systems and CRM tools.
  • Communicate with customers regarding service needs, repair recommendations, and project updates.
  • Support field service technicians with technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance.
  • Monitor workflow, productivity, and service quality standards.
  • Participate in hands-on repair, maintenance, and rebuild activities as needed.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with company policies and customer expectations.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of pump repair and service experience.
  • Strong knowledge of centrifugal, split-case, and end suction pumps.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex pump systems.
  • Experience coordinating work schedules and service activities.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and support technicians.
  • Experience working independently and making sound operational decisions.
  • Proficiency with computers, service documentation, and CRM systems.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a Lead Technician, Foreman, Supervisor, or Service Manager.
  • Experience working with municipal, industrial, and commercial pumping systems.
  • Experience managing technicians, schedules, and customer expectations.
  • Knowledge of pump manufacturers including Goulds, Xylem, Gorman-Rupp, Fairbanks Morse, Grundfos, Viking, Aurora, or similar products.
  • Knowledge of electrical controls and motor troubleshooting.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Technical or trade school education in a mechanical field.

Team Structure
  • Initially supervises approximately 3 employees.
  • Will oversee two newly hired Service Repair Mechanics.
  • Expected to manage 4-5 employees as the department continues to grow.
  • May assist in overseeing future assembly and service operations as responsibilities expand.

Schedule & Travel
  • Typical schedule: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.
  • Based in Fairfield, NJ.
  • Travel to customer locations and field sites as needed.
  • Travel may increase as service operations continue to expand.
  • Overnight travel may occasionally be required.
  • Travel time is compensated in accordance with company policies.
