Residential Advocate Floater (Solara House)

In-Person Full-Time (40 hours per week) Position in Oakland, CA (Non-Exempt)

Who We Are

Ruby's Place dba Restorative Pathways (RP) is an innovative nonprofit committed to ending domestic violence, human trafficking, and violent crime through hope, advocacy and connection. Our services include emergency shelter, transitional housing, rental subsidies, mental health services, substance recovery, and wrap-around services. All our services are trauma-sensitive and client-centered and are provided at no cost to our clients. All programs are low barrier.  

RP is led by survivors with a focus on reflection, innovation, and connection.  We believe in fostering relationships, both in our direct service work and throughout our internal work culture. What qualifications are required for this position?

You Are Also:

  • Able to flex across multiple roles, supporting janitorial, kitchen/cook, and peer advocate functions as needed, with a willingness to learn and adapt to varying program needs.
  • Holding an Associate’s degree in social services or enrolled in a similar program at an accredited four year College/University. Experience may be substituted for the education requirement.
  • Experienced in crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, and client advocacy.
  • Experienced working in a domestic violence and or homeless setting providing direct services. 
  • Understanding of the dynamics of abusive relationships and a commitment to preventing violence in the home.
  • Knowledgeable of Trauma Informed Care as well as an understanding of, and sensitivity to, serving diverse populations. 
  • Certified in the state mandated 40-hour Domestic Violence counselor certification. Can be arranged after hiring.
  • Able to lift 25 lbs. 
  • In possession of a valid CA driver's license, proof of insurance, and be approved by RP insurance as a driver in order to drive agency vehicles.  If a staff member cannot be approved by RP insurance as a driver, employment might not be able to continue. Instances where staff cannot be approved to drive will be reviewed on a case by case basis to determine if employment can continue in their role without driving agency vehicles. Items considered include but are not limited to: the shift the staff member holds and the frequency/necessity of driving during that shift, the amount of time before the staff member may be approved to drive by the insurance carrier, the availability of other staff on site to drive agency vehicles as program needs require, etc.
  • Able to complete all required background checks. Additional requirements may be deemed necessary, including fingerprinting (Live Scan), completion of all Community Care Licensing (CCL) documents, and ability to meet CCL licensing requirements.

What You Will Do

This position is a hands-on, flexible support role that assists in the day-to-day operations of the residential program. In this role, you will provide coverage across multiple functions, including janitorial, kitchen/cook, and peer advocate responsibilities, based on program needs and direction from your manager. You will help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment, support meal preparation and service, and engage with clients to ensure safety, rapport, and adherence to program expectations. This role requires adaptability, teamwork, and a willingness to step in wherever needed to support staff and clients while upholding RP’s trauma-informed and client-centered approach.

Responsibilities include

  1. Monitors assigned area during shifts
  2. Arrival must be punctual, as the schedule is firm and offers no flexibility. 
  3. Perform telephone screening for potential clients.
  4. Transport clients when needed.
  5. Includes general maintenance and cleaning, chore supervision, stocking, and general supply inventory as part of extensive advocate duties.
  6. Provide clerical support, including data entry and filing.
  7. Provide confidential, holistic, client-centered, trauma-sensitive  services.
  8. Greet new residents, provide tours of the facility, and assist with room orientation.
  9. Assist with general Solara House operations.
  10. Offer in-person or phone shift coverage as backup for other Adult Residential Programs when needed.             
  11. Provide flexible, hands-on support across residential operations, including assisting with janitorial duties (cleanliness and facility upkeep), cook duties (meal preparation, serving, and kitchen support), and peer advocate duties (client support, engagement, and safety monitoring) as directed by your manager.
  12. Complete functional timesheets by assigned due dates in compliance with time allocations.
  13. Actively participate in reflective supervision sessions.
  14. Create and maintain documentation of processes and procedures related to job duties.
  15. Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

This is a 100% in person role. You are expected to be available on-site at all times during your scheduled shift hours and days.You must be able to stand for long periods of time and perform physical activities, including lifting up to 25 pounds. You will be subject to frequent interruptions and must be able to multitask and handle stress.

Local travel in the greater Bay Area may be required.

The pay rate for this role is $26 per hour (non-exempt). The benefits that come with working at RP at full-time hours include medical, dental, and vision plans, a life insurance policy, significant vacation, sick time, restorative care time, and immediate vesting in our 403(b) with a generous match. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, hourly position with a regular schedule of Monday to Friday, 12:00pm to 8:00pm. Applicants must be located in the greater Bay Area.
