Job description

Position Title: Operations Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

Manages terminal activities including customer relations, scheduling, employee relations, budgets, staffing, safety, and daily/monthly/yearly production goals.

Essential Functions

  • Operates as the main contact with the customers.
  • Manages a team of supervisors and operator's staff.
  • Schedules labor and adjust as business needs fluctuate.
  • Accomplishes daily tasks and partners with the general manager in managing operations.
  • Manages and oversees yard planning.
  • Interviews and selects team members for hire.

  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to work as a team.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize competing responsibilities.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has direct reports.

Work Environment

Well-lighted, heated, and/or air-conditioned indoor office, production setting, outdoor/indoor shop environment, or enclosed vehicle with adequate ventilation and protection from extreme weather conditions.

Physical Demands

Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative or production/technical nature. Manual dexterity is sufficient to reach and handle items.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are primarily 8 hours each day, Monday through Friday on a day shift. This position often requires overtime.

Travel

Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.

Required Education and Experience

Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Operations

Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be able to obtain a TWIC badge (Transportation Working Identification Card).
