About the Role
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Planner is responsible for managing maintenance planning processes, maintenance purchasing activities, spare parts inventory management, and SAP Plant Maintenance (SAP PM) system functions to support safe, reliable, and cost-effective plant operations.
This position serves as the primary SAP PM key user for the Maintenance Department and is responsible for maintaining accurate maintenance data, administering work order and preventive maintenance processes, managing maintenance inventory and purchasing activities, and providing reporting and analytical support. The Maintenance Planner works closely with the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Supervisor to support maintenance operations through system administration, coordination, inventory control, and reporting functions.
What You'll Do
  • Serve as the site subject matter expert (SME) and primary administrator for SAP PM and related maintenance management processes.
  • Maintain and continuously improve SAP PM master data including equipment records, functional locations, maintenance plans, task lists, bills of material (BOMs), spare parts information, and other maintenance-related system data.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Supervisor to administer preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance work order activities within SAP PM. Translate approved maintenance priorities, schedules, and resource requirements into SAP while maintaining accurate work order records and completion status.
  • Generate, update, monitor, and track maintenance work orders, preventive maintenance activities, and backlog reports to support maintenance planning and performance objectives.
  • Support the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Supervisor by coordinating materials, contractor requirements, tools, and maintenance-related resources necessary to execute approved maintenance activities.
  • Administer maintenance spare parts inventory processes within SAP.
  • Establish and maintain inventory control strategies including Min-Max levels, critical spare identification, inventory rationalization programs, and obsolete inventory reduction initiatives.
  • Analyze spare parts consumption, inventory trends, inventory turns, stock-outs, and maintenance spending to identify opportunities for inventory optimization and cost reduction.
  • Create and manage purchase requisitions and purchase orders within SAP for maintenance materials, services, and capital project support.
  • Source and evaluate suppliers for maintenance materials and services.
  • Obtain quotations, support vendor negotiations, and identify opportunities to reduce maintenance material and service costs.
  • Follow up on purchase orders, monitor delivery schedules, resolve discrepancies, and communicate material availability to maintenance leadership.
  • Inspect received maintenance materials and parts against packing slips and coordinate resolution of discrepancies.
  • Support capital projects by coordinating spare parts requirements, inventory setup activities, equipment documentation, and SAP material master creation.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze maintenance reports, dashboards, and KPIs utilizing SAP, Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and other business systems.
  • Serve as the maintenance department lead user for SAP PM implementation, optimization, testing, upgrades, data integrity initiatives, and end-user training activities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on maintenance planning effectiveness, inventory optimization, SAP PM utilization, data accuracy, reliability improvement, and cost control.
  • Coordinate contractor administrative activities including quotations, scheduling communications, documentation, and maintenance-related purchasing support.
  • Maintain maintenance records, purchasing documentation, inventory files, and system records in accordance with company standards.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient maintenance storeroom environment supporting inventory accuracy, spare parts availability, safety, food safety, and 5S standards.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety requirements, food safety standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by management.
Position Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering technology, Industrial Technology, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and directly related work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum 2 years in maintenance planning, MRO purchasing, inventory management, or maintenance systems administration preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years SAP experience preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Forklift License issued by Riviana Foods
  • Advanced SAP PM knowledge required.
  • SAP MM knowledge preferred.
  • SAP Fiori experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance planning and workflow administration.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance spare parts management and MRO inventory control.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, Power Query, advanced formulas, data analysis, and dashboard development.
  • Power BI experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze large data sets and identify operational and financial improvement opportunities.
  • Knowledge of inventory optimization methodologies including Min-Max Planning, ABC Analysis, Cycle Counting, Critical Spare Parts Management, and Inventory Rationalization.
  • Self-starter with strong initiative and accountability.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.

  • Ability to effectively collaborate across Maintenance, Engineering, Operations, Purchasing, Finance, and external suppliers.

Working Conditions
  • Frequently required to sit, use hands, talk, hear, and operate a computer.
  • Occasionally required to walk production areas, climb stairs, bend, squat, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, reports, and maintenance data.
  • The majority of time is spent in an office environment with frequent interaction in maintenance, warehouse, and production areas.
  • Requires frequent walking, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of materials and equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to grasp, handle, and manipulate packaging materials.
  • Regular exposure to manufacturing environments including heat, cold, humidity, dust, noise, moving machinery, conveyor systems, and industrial equipment.
  • Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat/bump cap, gloves, and safety footwear.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts as required to support plant operations.
  • Must comply with all company safety policies, GMPs, food safety requirements, sanitation standards, allergen control procedures, and environmental regulations
  • Ability to perform cleaning and housekeeping duties in assigned areas
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the production area.
