At VCI Construction, as an Estimator II, you will develop and maintain strong relationships with VCI's current customers as well as develop new business relationships. Complete and assemble bids for both private and public dry utility construction projects with various values. The Business Development Professional should be experienced in estimating and in developing growth in the telecommunications industry. You should be a self-starter who is as capable of designing our sales strategy as you are with implementing and executing it.

What you'll do
  • Create proposals by estimating labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor needs for telecommunications projects.
  • Inspect job sites, attend pre-bid meetings, and collaborate with project managers.
  • Prepare accurate bids and proposals, ensuring deadlines and requirements are met.
  • Perform labor and material quantity take-offs from project drawings.
  • Obtain bids from and negotiate with vendors and subcontractors.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and research potential business opportunities.
  • Meet with customers and sales staff to ensure a clear understanding of the scope of work.
  • Track project progress, potential cost overruns, and changes to the scope of work.
  • Verify all necessary licenses, permits, and contractual documents are in order.
  • Review completed bids with senior management for final approval

What you'll need
  • At least 7 years of experience in underground dry utility construction, with 5+ years specifically in utility estimating.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in both underground and aerial telecommunications utility construction.
  • Foundational knowledge of building construction methods and codes.
  • The ability to read and interpret CATV fiber design prints.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and online bidding software, including Bid2Win experience.
  • Strong networking, negotiation, and customer relations skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with bilingual Spanish as a plus.
  • A valid California Driver's License and authorization to work in the US.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to adapt quickly to new skills.

  • Relevant estimating certifications preferred.
  • Possess strong logical thinking skills.

The wage range for Estimator II is $90,000.00 - $105,000.00
