Asheville High School is seeking an energetic and motivated Computer Science and IT Education

Teacher to join our Career and Technical Education (CTE) department. The ideal candidate will provide

engaging, career-relevant instruction in computer science, software development, cybersecurity, and

information technology. This position supports students in gaining essential 21st-century technical skills,

technical credentials, and career readiness through hands-on learning, simulations, and project-based

instruction.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver standards-based instruction aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study for Computer Science and Information Technology pathways.
  • Incorporate real-world applications, modern industry trends, programming tools, and IT technologies into daily instruction.
  • Guide students in developing technical skills relevant to computer science, networking, cybersecurity, and software pathways.
  • Create a structured classroom and laboratory environment conducive to active learning, collaboration, safety, and professional behavior.
  • Collaborate with business and industry partners to provide guest speakers, mentorships, and work-based learning opportunities.
  • Assess and document student progress using formative and summative tools aligned to CTE accountability measures and certification exams.
  • Maintain accurate student records, performance data, industry credentials, and physical inventory of computer equipment and technology supplies.
  • Advise administration and the CTE Director of needed repairs, equipment replacements, or unsafe lab conditions.
  • Support career development planning, including resume writing, technical interview skills, and

postsecondary transitions.

  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, counselors, and administrators regarding student educational needs and progress.
  • Follow all federal, state, and district policies, including CTE reporting and compliance standards. Participate in professional development, school improvement initiatives, and CTE advisory committees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements:ย Must be physically able to sit, stand, walk, and drive a car. Must be able to lift boxes up to 10 pounds.ย  Physical demand requirements are for Light Work.
