CONSTRUCTION MARKETING SPECIALIST

Salary: $50,000 - $80,000 per year

About the Company

Ruston Paving is a commercial and industrial paving construction contractor with offices in New York, Virginia, and North Carolina. Established in 1943, we are a family-oriented company that has been in business for three generations. Our company is capable of all types of asphalt paving projects ranging from minor repairs to larger projects incorporating asphalt reclamation and recycling, as well as new construction.

General Summary of the Position

Ruston Paving is looking for a Construction Marketing Specialist to build and elevate our brand across the commercial and industrial paving markets we serve. This role owns the marketing function – content, digital presence, print collateral, project storytelling, and market research – and plays a central part in positioning Ruston Paving as the paving contractor of choice for owners, developers, and general contractors, as well as a destination employer for skilled construction talent. A significant part of this position is dedicated to recruitment marketing: building the campaigns, content, and employer brand that attract candidates to our open positions, while day-to-day recruiting coordination is handled in partnership with our Human Resources team.

Teamwork is a major part of every position at Ruston Paving, so aside from all other listed responsibilities, this candidate must be willing to assist others and be as productive as possible. The ideal candidate is an outgoing, proactive self-starter who demonstrates initiative, works independently, and excels at storytelling, relationship building, and public speaking. A successful candidate will have an immediate impact on how the Ruston Paving brand is seen in the construction marketplace and in the labor market.

Essential Functions

The following are essential functions for the position. These are responsibilities that an individual must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation.

Marketing (Primary Focus):

  1. Content Creation & Brand Storytelling:
    1. Develop engaging content for social media platforms, websites, and print that highlights Ruston Paving’s construction projects, equipment, crews, and services across all three regions.
    2. Write and edit content for the company’s website, blog posts, email newsletters, and project spotlights that showcase our paving and construction expertise.
    3. Create visual materials – brochures, flyers, project signage, and company promotions – that reflect a consistent, professional brand across every market we serve.
  2. Project Documentation & Visual Storytelling:
    1. Capture high-quality photos and video of active paving and construction projects, from mobilization through final rollout, to showcase the quality of our work.
    2. Produce before-and-after visuals and short-form project features that illustrate the impact of Ruston Paving’s construction techniques, including pavement reclamation and soil stabilization.
    3. Build a library of project case studies and testimonials that marketing, business development, and proposal teams can draw on.
  3. Digital Marketing & Analytics:
    1. Manage and grow Ruston Paving's social media presence with project updates, company news, safety highlights, and employer-brand content.
    2. Optimize website content for SEO to strengthen visibility with owners, developers, and general contractors searching for a paving partner.
    3. Track and report on website traffic, social engagement, campaign performance, and recruitment-marketing metrics, and use the data to refine future content.
  4. Print Media & Trade Show Support:
    1. Design print advertisements for trade publications and industry magazines that reach the commercial and industrial construction audience.
    2. Develop marketing collateral for trade shows, industry events, and community activities that reinforce Ruston Paving’s position in the paving construction market.
  5. Market Research & Branding:
    1. Research local competitors and industry trends in asphalt paving and commercial construction to inform marketing strategy and messaging.
    2. Gather customer testimonials and turn successful projects into polished case studies that support both business development and brand credibility.
  6. Recruitment Marketing & Employer Branding:
    1. Lead the marketing side of talent attraction: build the messaging, content, and campaigns that present Ruston Paving as a great place to build a construction career.
    2. Develop career-page content, social media campaigns, video features on crews and projects, and print materials that promote open positions and company culture.
    3. Design and produce materials and presentations used at career fairs, school visits, and community outreach events to promote career opportunities with Ruston Paving.
    4. Partner with Human Resources to align recruitment-marketing content and campaigns with active hiring priorities across divisions and locations.
  7. Business Development Support:
    1. Work closely with project managers and assist with pre-qualification materials in preparation of proposals.
    2. Coordinate and attend trade shows and similar activities to promote the Ruston Paving brand to prospective clients and partners.
  8. All other marketing duties as assigned.

Recruiting (Secondary Focus):

  1. Assist Human Resources with candidate outreach materials, job postings, and recruiting event logistics as needed.
  2. Represent Ruston Paving at select career fairs and community outreach events alongside the recruiting team.
  3. Support onboarding communications and pre-employment materials on an as-needed basis.
  4. All other recruiting duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Excitement and motivation for the workday ahead.
  2. Creative storyteller who can translate construction and paving work into compelling marketing content.
  3. Proficient in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) and comfortable with photo/video content creation.
  4. Working knowledge of SEO principles, social media marketing, and digital analytics.
  5. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent the Ruston Paving brand professionally to clients, candidates, and the public.
  6. Must be a self-starter with the ability to take initiative, work independently, and manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  7. Understands and prioritizes the safety of every individual on and around job sites.
  8. Genuine interest in the people, projects, and communities that make up Ruston Paving’s story.
  9. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  10. Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions.
  11. Ability to meet attendance standards with dependability and consistency.

Education and Experience

  1. This position requires a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or graphic design, along with 1-3 years of professional experience in a related role.
  2. Experience in construction, skilled trades, or construction-related industry is preferred.
  3. Experience with video editing software, photography, applicant tracking systems, and job boards preferred.
  4. Familiarity with content management systems and email marketing platforms.
