Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Manager of Anesthesia Support Services plays a critical leadership role in ensuring uninterrupted anesthesia services across UChicago Medicine's operating rooms and procedural areas. This position provides operational oversight of anesthesia support staff, equipment, supplies, and regulatory compliance while partnering closely with physicians, nurse anesthetists, technicians, and hospital leadership to support safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The manager is responsible for staff development, workflow optimization, equipment management, and maintaining readiness across multiple anesthetizing locations..
Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Anesthesia Technicians and Technologists.
  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, payroll, performance management, and employee development.
  • Ensure availability and functionality of anesthesia equipment, instruments, and supplies.
  • Partner with Clinical Engineering and Materials Management to support operational readiness.
  • Manage regulatory compliance, quality initiatives, and patient safety standards.
  • Coordinate training, competency validation, and ongoing education programs.
  • Support budget management and resource utilization across the department.
  • Serve as a liaison between anesthesia providers, clinical teams, and hospital departments.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Anesthesia Technology, or related field.
  • Progressive leadership experience in perioperative services, anesthesia support services, surgical services, or a related healthcare environment.
  • Experience managing staff, budgets, equipment, and operational workflows.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards applicable to perioperative services.
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification through ASATT (American Society of Anesthesia Technicians and Technologists).
  • Experience in an academic medical center or large hospital setting.
  • Experience supporting multiple operating rooms and procedural areas.
  • Knowledge of blood gas laboratory operations, equipment management, and quality programs.
