Job description

Anesthesia Technician Senior - Full-Time Nights
UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh

Join the team at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh as a Senior Anesthesia Technician and play a critical role in supporting safe, efficient surgical and procedural care for pediatric patients. Working closely with anesthesia providers and the perioperative team, you'll help ensure anesthesia equipment, supplies, and technology are prepared and functioning properly to support high-quality patient care.

This full-time opportunity offers a night shift schedule of 7:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday, providing a consistent work week with three days off. UPMC offers a sign-on bonus of up to $15,000 for eligible candidates, as well as opportunities for professional advancement through our career ladder program, which recognizes experience, skill development, and ongoing contributions to patient care excellence.

If you have experience as an Anesthesia Technician, Patient Care Technician, EMT, or in a medical-surgical or emergency department setting and are looking to grow your career within a nationally recognized pediatric healthcare organization, we encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform phlebotomy and blood specimen collection as needed.
  • Assist with intraoperative patient care and operate specialized anesthesia and surgical equipment.
  • Draw blood samples from existing intravascular lines.
  • Perform and evaluate thromboelastography (TEG) testing.
  • Operate rapid infusion systems (RIS) and other advanced anesthesia support equipment.
  • Support anesthesia providers by preparing, troubleshooting, and maintaining equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in the department's equipment management and preventive maintenance program.
  • Assist with evaluating new equipment and supplies in accordance with UPMC policies.
  • Maintain accurate records, statistics, and documentation to support quality initiatives, reporting requirements, and operational analysis.
  • Enter charging and billing information accurately and timely.
  • Train, mentor, and orient Anesthesia Technicians, Anesthesia Associates, and students as appropriate.
  • Maintain competency through continuing education, in-service training, and professional development activities.
  • Perform all responsibilities of an Anesthesia Technician.
  • Adhere to departmental, hospital, and regulatory standards to promote patient safety and quality care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • High School Diploma or GED and 3 years of experience as an Anesthesia Technician required; OR
  • Graduate of an accredited Anesthesia Technician program and 2 years of experience as an Anesthesia Technician required; OR
  • ASATT Certified Anesthesia Technician (Cer.A.T.) with a High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of experience as an Anesthesia Technician required; OR
  • ASATT Certified Anesthesia Technician (Cer.A.T.) and graduate of an accredited Anesthesia Technician program with 1 year of experience as an Anesthesia Technician required.
  • Strong knowledge of anesthesia equipment, supplies, and perioperative support functions.
  • Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain specialized anesthesia equipment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment and manage multiple priorities.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • ASATT Certified Anesthesia Technician (Cer.A.T.) or ASATT Certified Anesthesia Technologist (Cer.A.T.T.) preferred.
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting Clearance.
  • Act 33 Clearance with renewal.
  • Act 34 Clearance with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance.
