How much do management development program jobs pay per year?
What key skills and qualifications are needed to thrive in a Management Development Program, and why are they important?
What is the difference between Management Development Program vs Management Trainee?
| Aspect | Management Development Program | Management Trainee |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | To develop future managers through structured training and rotational assignments | To train and evaluate potential future managers through on-the-job learning |
| Duration | Typically 6 months to 2 years | Usually 1 year or less |
| Work Environment | Rotational across departments, focused on skill development | Hands-on experience in specific department roles |
| Credentials | Often requires a bachelor's or master's degree, sometimes certifications | Similar educational requirements, may include internships or certifications |
Both Management Development Programs and Management Trainees aim to prepare individuals for managerial roles, but the Development Program offers a broader, rotational experience over a longer period, focusing on comprehensive skill-building. Management Trainees typically undergo shorter, department-specific training to evaluate their potential for future leadership roles.

Job description
Supply Chain Management (SCM) Overview
Dependable supply chains have been foundational to Chevron's progress. A reliable supply of materials, services and logistics enabled Chevron to grow from the first well in California to our global presence today. Over our history, we have built supply chains in places that once seemed impossible. By staying reliable in uncertain environments, we have enabled Chevron to compete.
SCM's vision is to be the best proactive partners, essential experts, and commercial stewards to enable Chevron to deliver the energy the world needs. Chevron spends billions of dollars annually on goods and services to support our global operations. The SCM function collaborates within Chevron and across the companies we work with to deliver goods and services to Chevron safely, reliably, and at a competitive cost. The function's strategic processes include Category Management, Contracting, Strategic Sourcing, Market Intelligence, Procurement Operations, Materials Management, Logistics, and Supplier Diversity/Local Content.
SCM plays a critical role in enabling Chevron to deliver on its mission to provide the affordable, reliable, and ever-cleaner energy the world needs. Our purpose is to create and manage the supply chains that enable human progress.
SCM Development Program (SCMDP):
SCMDP participants will gain a better understanding of Chevron's business in an accelerated, fast-paced program. This 2-year program consists of three 8-month rotations that will provide the participants with hands-on Supply Chain Management experience and focuses on the development of technical and leadership skills and competencies.
SCMDP participants will have the opportunity to complete rotations that span the end-to-end global supply chain across multiple asset classes, Corporate, and Business Unit roles. Frequent interaction with leadership, senior managers, current program members, and program alumni can be expected.
Assignments are driven by business needs.
Positions are typically located in:
Houston, Texas or other US location. While Houston is the homebase for the SCM Development Program, the expectation is that at least one of the 3 rotations will be in a location outside of Houston. Participants need to be geographically mobile throughout the duration of the program.
Qualifications:
Chevron seeks talented second-year MBA (Master of Business Administration) or Master's students with an interest in Supply Chain Management and exhibit the following preferred skills and qualifications:
- Prior internship or relevant experience in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or a related field
- Strong analytical, problemsolving, and business acumen, with the ability to translate data into insights
- Demonstrated strategic thinking, including the ability to connect analyses and recommendations to broader business objectives
- Leadership potential, shown through initiative, adaptability, and the ability to influence and collaborate
- An innovative and digitally curious mindset, including openness to leveraging analytics, automation, and emerging technologies (e.g., AIenabled tools) to improve supply chain outcomes
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey insights clearly to diverse audiences
- Commitment to teamwork, diversity, inclusion, and integrity
- A strong growth mindset, with openness to learning, experimenting with new approaches, and exploring a variety of Procurement and Supply Chain business areas
- Ability to receive, apply, and learn from feedback to continuously improve performance and impact
Required Qualifications:
- MBA (Master of Business Administration) or Master's degree with concentration in Supply Chain Management or related discipline
- Geographically mobile
- Permanent US Work Authorization
Candidates typically have completed a bachelor's degree in a technical and/or analytical discipline (e.g., engineering, finance, data science, business analytics, etc.) and have 3+ years' pre-MBA work experience.
