What You Will Do - Essential Functions
The role of the Certified Medical Coder is to review and code medical records in their entirety, assigning appropriate ICD-10-CM codes (as defined by ICD-10-CM Guidelines and CMS) from any/all CMS acceptable documents to be used for financial purposes. Ensures adherence to Lucet and Departmental Policies and Procedures.
  • Coding Expertise & Quality Assurance
    • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of medical coding across multiple specialties or provide subject matter expertise in a critical specialty area.
    • Ensure accurate, complete, and compliant assignment of diagnosis codes while maintaining a minimum of 95% coding accuracy and completeness.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Professional Development
    • Maintain current knowledge of ICD-10-CM guidelines, HCC risk adjustment models, Medicare reimbursement requirements, and applicable federal regulations.
    • Adhere to HIPAA standards and confidentiality requirements while actively participating in training, education programs, and professional development opportunities.
  • Operational Excellence & Process Improvement
    • Utilize multiple systems and tools to research medical records, manage priorities effectively, and meet productivity expectations in a remote work environment.
    • Support quality improvement initiatives, respond promptly to communications, attend required meetings, and contribute to process enhancement efforts.

Who You Are
  • Required Qualifications
    • 2 years prior work experience in the healthcare field specifically related to coding is preferred.
    • Must be in good standing with either AAPC and/or AHIMA and hold an active CPC, CRC, CCS, CPC-P, CCS-P or PCS with high degree of competence in this area a plus
    • ICD-10 Proficiency is required.
    • Experience in review/audit of medical records coding and development of process improvement plans required
    • Prior medical chart auditing/quality experience preferred.
    • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, anatomy and physiology, major disease processes, and pharmacology.
    • Experience with hospital coding is preferred
    • Managed Care methodology experience a plus.
    • National RAD-V experience a plus.
    • Professional demeanor and a strong work ethic, reliable, resourceful, enthusiastic, team player with positive attitude
    • Problem Solving: You are a problem solver with the ability to encourage others in collaborative problem solving.
    • Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills, organizational, time management.
    • Bilingual (Spanish) is strongly desired
    • Ability to pass background check upon hire and throughout employment to include criminal felony & misdemeanor search, SSN validation/trace search (LEIE), education report (highest degree obtained), civil upper and lower search, 7-year employment report, federal criminal search, statewide criminal search, widescreen plus national criminal search, health care sanctions-state med (SAM), national sex offender registry, prohibited parties (OFAC) (terrorist watchlist), and a 10-Panel Drug Screen.

    • Must be able to constantly remain in a stationary, sitting position, communicate and exchange information with others, inspect information, perform repetitive motions with arms and fingers, interpret data, problem solve, make decisions, organize and plan, and maintain a positive and professional attitude in all situations.
    • Work is performed from home with company-provided equipment.
    • Travel between multiple residences or remote work locations is not supported for this position; employees must establish and work consistently from a single designated home office.
    • Sitting for long periods of time attached to a wired headset using desktop equipment is expected.
    • Use of a hardwired internet connection is required to maintain call quality and system performance; mobile or portable setups are not permitted.
    • A quiet workspace with minimal background noise for calls.
