Summary
Our client is an established, nationally recognized commercial general contractor specializing in the construction of luxury retail environments for many of the world's most prestigious brands. They are known for delivering exceptional craftsmanship, uncompromising quality, and complex projects within occupied retail environments and premier shopping destinations throughout North America.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Site Superintendent to oversee an immediate ground-up commercial construction project located at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA. This individual will be responsible for leading all on-site construction activities from project startup through completion while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, scheduling, and client satisfaction. The ideal candidate will possess extensive ground-up commercial construction experience, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to coordinate multiple trades within a fast-paced, high-profile environment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage all day-to-day field operations for assigned ground-up commercial construction projects.
  • Direct and supervise all subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and field personnel to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications.
  • Develop and maintain the master construction schedule while proactively identifying and resolving potential delays.
  • Coordinate all phases of construction from site mobilization through project closeout.
  • Conduct daily site walks to monitor project progress, workmanship, quality control, and overall site conditions.
  • Ensure strict compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety standards, and local building requirements.
  • Lead and facilitate subcontractor coordination meetings, owner meetings, and project progress discussions.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and project documentation to ensure proper execution of work.
  • Identify conflicts within construction documents and collaborate with project management to develop effective solutions.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports documenting manpower, weather conditions, project milestones, inspections, deliveries, and jobsite activities.
  • Coordinate inspections with local jurisdictions and ensure all required permits remain current throughout construction.
  • Monitor subcontractor productivity and quality while holding trade partners accountable for schedule commitments.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to manage project budgets, change orders, procurement schedules, and overall project execution.
  • Ensure punch list completion and oversee final project turnover to the client.
  • Foster positive relationships with owners, architects, engineers, consultants, tenants, property management teams, and subcontractors.
  • Promote a professional, organized, and highly collaborative jobsite culture reflective of a premier commercial builder.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience serving as a Superintendent on commercial construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully managing ground-up commercial construction projects from start to finish.
  • Previous experience with high-end retail, luxury retail, hospitality, mixed-use, or similarly high-quality commercial projects is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of structural, civil, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, and technical documents.
  • Proven leadership experience managing multiple subcontractors and coordinating complex project schedules.
  • Excellent knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and jobsite safety best practices.
  • Experience maintaining detailed project documentation including daily logs, safety reports, inspections, RFIs, and punch lists.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Proficiency with construction management software such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience working within occupied facilities or active retail environments is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred, but equivalent field experience will be considered.
  • OSHA 30 Certification is strongly preferred.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification is considered a plus.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
  • Candidates residing within a reasonable commuting distance (approximately 25 miles) of the Costa Mesa area are strongly preferred due to the daily onsite nature of the position.
