    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to access and operate a forklift and other powered industrial equipment to approved OSHA standards.

    SUMMARY

    Under the direction of the Blacksmith and Forge Supervisor, the Hammer Helper assists the Blacksmith and other members of the forging crew perform the forging operation.   

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Duties and responsibilities include the following; other duties may be required and assigned at any time.

    Transfers and/or lifts metal parts to and from workstations such as furnace, hammer, anvil using pick ups or manipulator.

    Places punches on parts to set up hole punching operations.

    Rotates, turns and flips parts during the hammer operation using shears, bolsters, and levers to move parts.

    Removes scale from work piece and dies, using broom.  Marks material with specified information using metal stamp and sledge hummer.

    Uses graphite, coal and other lubricants throughout the forging process.

    Measures rough and finished parts with measuring tools to ensure fit in ring roller.

    Conducts set-up of sizing equipment.

    Operate overhead crane.

    Operate forklift and/or manipulator and refuel with propane.

    Responsible for housekeeping.

    Must have an understanding and knowledge of company procedures and work instructions.

    Maintains a safe and organized workstation and follows all company policy, safety and procedures.
