Construction Project Engineer
Pay Details:
The annual base salary range for this position in California is $90,000 to $125,000 per year. The starting pay for the successful candidate depends on various job-related factors, including but not limited to the candidate's geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, education/training, internal value, peer equity, external market demands, and organizational considerations.
The Construction Project Engineer supports the successful delivery of OCVIBE construction projects by coordinating and leading design documentation, managing project controls, supporting field construction activities, and ensuring adherence to project scope, schedule, and budget. This role works closely with the construction team, contractors, consultants, and other internal stakeholders to help facilitate smooth project execution from pre-construction through completion. The Construction Project Engineer plays a key role in QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) documentation, tracking project progress, evaluating changes, and helping maintain consistent communication across the project team.
Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Documentation
  • Coordinate project execution activities focusing on QA/QC, contractor coordination, bid documents, RFIs (Request for Information), and submittals to support timely project starts and completions
  • Maintain project documentation, including meeting minutes, logs, tracking tools, and document control systems
  • Support coordination with construction contractors to ensure bid documents and scopes are complete
  • Track submittals, RFIs, and specification compliance

Cost & Schedule Support
  • Help track hard and soft cost expenditures against project budgets
  • Update project schedules and monitor progress to support keeping projects on track
  • Review and provide recommendations on change orders and claims; prepare summaries for leadership decision-making

Design & Pre-Construction Support
  • Provide input related to constructability and document completeness
  • Assist with preparing project budgets and various project reports

Field & Construction Support
  • Assist in the management of subcontractors, ensuring they understand the scope of work and adhere to the project schedule
  • Conduct periodic site walks to support QA/QC and verify construction progress
  • Assist with ensuring contractors and subcontractors comply with building and safety codes
  • Oversee Contract's procurement of materials, equipment, and long-lead items

Project Controls & Reporting
  • Own and maintain project controls logs (changes, risks, action items) and ensure timely updates and closure
  • Assist in preparing financial, progress, and status reports for leadership review
  • Help enforce adherence to project documentation standards and quality controls

Other
  • Provide general project support and perform other duties as assigned
  • Support continuous improvement by documenting lessons learned and best practices

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience supporting construction projects, including project documentation, RFIs/submittals, and field coordination
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, documentation, and sequencing
  • Working knowledge of construction costs, materials, and value-engineering concepts
  • Excellent time management, organization, and communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project) and project management tools
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously
  • Able to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and teamwork
