Position Summary

The LMS Applications Administrator serves as a primary support contact for the university's learning technology ecosystem, supporting operations of the Learning Management System (Blackboard). They work with faculty, students, vendors, and IT staff to ensure secure, reliable, and innovative services that support the university's academic goals and IT strategic plan

Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Administer day-to-day LMS operations, including course creation, user management, incident troubleshooting, and upgrades.
  • Serves as Tier 2 technical support in troubleshooting complex user support problems.
  • Provide faculty and staff training via workshops, support documentation, and drop-in virtual assistance.
  • Ensure application security, reliability, and continuity by managing access, performing backups, planning recovery, and responding to incidents for assigned systems.
  • Manage and support integrations with LTI and vendor APIs; partner with institutional and vendor teams to ensure secure and reliable data exchange.
  • Maintain clear, current service documentation, knowledge base articles, status updates, and IT advisory/notification messages/unplanned outage tickets for updates and outages.
  • Serve as the primary or secondary support for relevant Ed Tech vendors (e.g., LMS, captioning, audio-video proctoring, plagiarism, accessibility tools, etc.).
  • Collaborate with academic leadership, centers for teaching & learning, and instructional designers on effective use of tools
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional technology or other appropriately related field.
  • Three to five years of experience using and supporting applications, Learning Management Systems, and instructional technology.
  • Familiarity with instructional design principles, pedagogy across modalities (online, hybrid, face-to-face), accessibility best practices, and course development workflows.
  • Demonstrated experience with LMS administration, LTI integrations, and ecosystem tools (e.g., captioning, audio/video conferencing, proctoring, SIS integration, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) with a service-oriented, collaborative approach across faculty, staff, students, vendors, and the IT team.
  • Familiarity with using the LMS/related tools as an end user

Functional Requirements

The position requires:
Remaining in a stationary position at a desk or work station for extended periods of time for a number of assigned duties.
Occasional independent physical manipulation of loads in excess of 40 pounds. Occasional physical manipulation of loads up to 80 pounds with the assistance of a co-worker.
Attention to detail, accuracy, and efficiency during both slow and peak periods.
The continuous presentation of a professional demeanor, even under demanding conditions such as multiple priorities and short-notice deadlines.

Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements

  • Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.
  • Occasional off-hours or irregular hours required including routine application maintenance and /or unexpected application outages.
  • On-call availability to ensure applications are available at all time. Primary contact for 24-hour emergency application response.
  • Occasional travel may be required for vendor training or to other institutions.
