Salary Range: Teacher Salary Schedule (195-day position)
Location: Darlington County Schools
Available: 2026-2027 School Year
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: Principal
Education and Experience:
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher and an add-on certification for literacy coach/literacy specialist
OR
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher and are enrolled and actively participating (must attend at least 80 percent of all sessions and satisfactorily complete all assignments) in the SCDE Literacy Leaders Institute and are actively pursuing the literacy coach endorsement by enrollment in a SCDE approved program
OR
  • Master's Degree or higher in reading or closely related field (Contact the Office of Educator Services to determine if a degree is in a sufficiently closely-related field)
  • Valid certification in reading and/or early childhood/elementary
  • Five (5) years successful classroom experience preferred
  • ADEPT/STEP training preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Job Goal:
Literacy Coaches will serve as job-embedded, stable resources for professional development to improve reading and literacy instruction and student achievement. Literacy Coaches shall support and provide initial and ongoing professional development to teachers based on an analysis of student assessments and the provision of differentiated instruction and intensive intervention.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Model effective instructional strategies for teachers
  • Train teachers in data analysis and using data to differentiate instruction
  • Coach and mentor colleagues
  • Work with teachers to ensure that research-based programs are implemented with fidelity
  • Help lead and support reading leadership teams
  • Facilitate study groups
  • Support development and implementation of District Reading Plans
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Credentials:
Literacy Coach / Literacy Specialist credential preferred
