Role Overview
This position provides senior-level engineering leadership for enterprise Linux platforms, with additional support for AIX and IBM Power Systems during platform transition and lifecycle activities. This is a senior engineering role focused on platform standards, automation, lifecycle strategy, and complex infrastructure delivery. The role will help define the strategy, roadmap, standards, and service model for Linux infrastructure, with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Amazon Linux as the primary platforms.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, engineering, and implementation of enterprise Linux infrastructure solutions across on-premises, virtual, and cloud environments.
  • Act as the technical product owner for Linux infrastructure services, including standards, roadmap development, lifecycle planning, and platform improvement.
  • Develop and maintain Linux build standards, golden images, hardened templates, and security baselines using tools such as Packer.
  • Define and implement Linux automation using Ansible, Terraform, Bash, Python, Git, and CI/CD practices.
  • Support Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Amazon Linux as primary platforms, and support AIX and IBM Power Systems as needed.
  • Define and manage the Linux lifecycle, including patching and maintenance standards using Red Hat Satellite.
  • Support Linux security hardening, vulnerability remediation, and compliance alignment with CIS standards.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting for Linux performance, stability, and security issues.
  • Partner with identity, security, cloud, application, and operations teams on cross-functional projects.
Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience is required.
Experience: This role requires 10+ years of infrastructure engineering experience, including 5+ years of hands-on Linux engineering in enterprise environments. Candidates must have deep technical experience with Linux operating systems, including build, configuration, troubleshooting, patching, and hardening. Advanced troubleshooting experience with Linux performance, system logs, and security controls is necessary. Experience leading technical workstreams is also required.
Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of Linux, specifically Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Amazon Linux, is required. Strong scripting skills in Bash and Python are necessary. Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible and Packer is required, while experience with Terraform is a nice-to-have. Required experience with Red Hat Satellite for patching and repository management. Experience with sudo and LDAP integration is also needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AIX, IBM Power Systems, PowerVM, and LPARs.
  • Experience with other Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, Oracle Linux, or SUSE.
  • Experience with Linux workloads in cloud platforms like AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with container platforms like Kubernetes or OpenShift.
  • Relevant certifications such as Red Hat, AWS, Google Cloud, Terraform, or Ansible are preferred.
