Job description
The International School of San Francisco is a bilingual, multicultural learning community where students learn to navigate the complexities of the world with confidence, empathy, and joy. Our vibrant urban campus is situated in the heart of the city and serves nearly 1,100 students beginning at age 2 and continuing through grade 12.
Guided by the principles of academic rigor and diversity, The International School of San Francisco offers programs of study in French and English to prepare its graduates for a world in which the ability to think critically and to communicate across cultures is of paramount importance.
Working at The International School of San Francisco opens up a myriad of opportunities both personal and professional. When minds and cultures from around the world come together, boundless curiosity takes hold; faculty and staff benefit from that deep intellectual engagement and joyful discovery as we live out our values of respect, integrity, inclusion, collaboration, and curiosity. Each employee is both teacher and learner in our vibrant, multicultural, multilingual school community.
In the libraries, hallways, and classrooms of our school, The International School of San Francisco library program will foster a love of reading, improve information literacy and research skills, extend and support the classroom curriculum and school programs, and serve as a resource for our community of students, teachers, and families.
The K-2 Library Supervisor will support the daily operations of the Lower Library, serving grades K-2 and reporting to the Maternelle and Lower School Principal. This role is focused on cultivating a positive learning environment for all patrons in keeping with our school values. This role is 12 hours per week, with a consistent Monday through Friday schedule.
Key Responsibilities- Teach and model exploration and appropriate use of library materials to young students during scheduled class visits to the library
- Foster positive relationships with and between students and collaborate with colleagues to uphold clear expectations for student behavior
- Create and maintain a vibrant, visually appealing physical space for discovery and use of resources by students
- Under the direction of the Lower and Middle School Librarian and in collaboration with the Lower School Principal and team, provide library programming such as readings and activities
- Proactively foster communication between K-2 faculty and the library and Lower School teams to identify and address resource and programming needs to support student growth and specific curricular areas
- Independently manage check-out and return of library materials by patrons
- Assist the librarian with behind-the-scenes tasks related to loaning and recollecting library materials; maintain organization of the library collection
- Meet regularly with the Lower and Middle School Librarian, and attend other meetings as directed
- Support initiatives to ensure that the library is a welcoming and inclusive place for all
- Additional duties, possibly including supervision of students, as assigned by the Librarian or Principal
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, diverse environment
- Strong communication skills with students in the lower elementary grades and with adults
- An interest in learning about and supporting library services
- Punctual, collaborative, self-motivated, and excited to interact with students
- Prior experience with school-age children strongly preferred
- Proficiency in French desirable
- Must be eligible to work in the US
Salary for this position is $25-27 per hour depending on experience. This role is 12 hours per week and requires presence on campus every school day. This role can be combined with the FSL/FLE Teacher (French as a Second Language/Français Langue Étrangère) role and/or Extended Care Program hours (different hourly rates apply) to reach up to 35 hours per week.
The International School of San Francisco is committed to providing an open, fair, inclusive, non-discriminatory environment for all individuals across differences of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, socio-economic status, ethnicity, age, physical ability, or medical condition. We seek to increase the presence, representation, and inclusion of U.S. historically under-represented people of color, international, bilingual, and bicultural students, faculty, and staff; and, to provide an environment that will attract and retain individuals identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning and intersex (LGBTQQI).
