Description

The Courier picks up, delivers, and routes all types of library materials and correspondence to and from designated Riverside County Library System branches in the desert and other locations as assigned. The Courier will have a professional appearance, a friendly manner, an ability to communicate clearly with staff at all levels and provide excellent customer service. The Courier must be dependable and complete their route promptly.


Revolving Shifts: Monday - Friday and sometimes Saturdays

Location: RCLS Library Management Office, Jurupa Valley

Hours per Week: 40


Responsibilities

  • Provide Excellent customer service.
  • Drive a company-owned vehicle to transport books and other library materials, inter-office correspondence, programming supplies, furniture, etc., to and from libraries within the library system network.
  • Assist in the sorting and routing of books and other library materials
  • Load and unload the courier van
  • Report promptly any malfunctions with the company vehicle; schedule and deliver the van for regular maintenance.
  • Maintain the exterior and interior of the company-owned vans so they are clean and professional in appearance.
  • Fuel company vehicle
  • Address or escalate safety issues to the appropriate management
  • Know and understand the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement, and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenant of a public Library System and Services. Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records
  • Other Duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Previous on-the-job driving/courier experience is a plus
  • Prior customer service experience or experience working with the public
  • Previous library experience a plus
  • Detail-oriented
  • Good time-management skills
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings, and weekends
  • Basic knowledge of library systems and databases preferred
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Multilingual speaking is a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves;
  • Lift/push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
