Job Summary
This position is responsible for operating a Borough vehicle to provide Borough-wide courier services to various Borough facilities, including libraries, recreation facilities, transfer stations, and other operational sites, as well as local businesses and partner agencies. Duties include picking up and delivering requested items and supplies, with occasional transport to Anchorage when needed.
Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork.
Pay Grade
C1 - C5 - DOE
Minimum Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent.
One (1) year of work experience/employment. Relevant experience should be: professional experience as a courier and/or delivery driver with a clean driving record.
Must be at least 19 years of age with one (1) year of driving experience.
Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and physical.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Pick up and transport parcels, packages, and other deliverables as assigned.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing to track waiting and completed orders, accurately recording deliveries and pick-ups.
  • Provide friendly customer service.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations.

Temporary and Thousand Hour (1000) employees for the Mat-Su Borough do not receive a benefits package. Following is a brief description of the only benefit provided to this class of employee.
Alaska Supplemental Benefits System:
The Supplemental Benefits System (SBS) is in lieu of Social Security and is mandatory. An employee contributes at 6.13% of gross wages, matched by the Borough (6.13%), on the present wage base of $176,100.

Employees assigned driving duties/responsibilities, must be at least 19 years of age with one (1) year of driving experience. If assigned driving duties, can you meet those parameters?

I understand that the schedule for this position will vary based on operational needs, and the hours will be limited to less than 30 per week and 1,000 per 12-month period. I further understand that this is an on-call position with no benefits and no guaranteed hours.
