Job Description

The City of Avondale is accepting applications for Library Page (Part-time) in the Parks, Recreation & Libraries Department. Are you passionate about helping people, staying organized, and creating welcoming community spaces? Join our library team and play a vital role in connecting patrons with resources and services. Would you enjoy shelving and organizing library materials, processing returned items, and maintaining clean, inviting library spaces? Are you excited to provide exceptional customer service at the information desk by helping patrons locate materials and navigate technology? Do you thrive in a collaborative environment where you can support library programs, events, and outreach activities that enrich the community? If so, we encourage you to apply! This is a regular, part-time, limited position scheduled to work up to 19.99 hours per week. State retirement system enrollment may be required based on the number of hours/weeks worked in a fiscal year. The current schedule for this position is the following rotation: Week 1: Mon 10-3, Wed 10-3, Thur 10-3, Sat 1-5 Week 2: Mon 10-3, Wed 10-3, Thur 10-3, Fri 1-5 This schedule is subject to change based on Library and City needs. Library Pages work outside of the library branch's regular operating hours for Special Events, Programs, Training, and Outreach. Full availability is expected.

Essential Functions

Gathers library materials for processing from the book drop, patron-use areas, and return stations. Maintains the organization of the collections. Sorts and prepares materials for shelving; shelves, and shelf-reads and shifts materials as needed. May re-sensitize library materials and check-in materials. Provides direct public service to customers; answers questions and helps customers with their accounts. Clears and cleans tables and public seating areas to provide an inviting atmosphere for patrons. Regularly picks up materials left by patrons in public areas. Assists patrons in the use of copiers, printers, scanners, fax machines, and other equipment. Assists patrons in locating specific library materials. Staffs the customer service desk as assigned. Issues library cards and updates patron accounts. Verifies payments for library fines and resolves fee disputes, including credit card transactions. Creates new patron records and provides information and interpretation of library policies and procedures. Provide instruction to library patrons on the use of self-service stations. Assists with special events, outreach, and programs as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalency is required. Knowledge of books and authors. Previous experience with alphanumeric filing and using the Dewey Decimal System is desirable. While direct experience is not mandatory for this position, candidates with previous work experience in library services, filing and shelving procedures, and customer service are highly desirable. Bilingual speaking skills (Spanish) preferred.
