Job Summary


Based Primarily in the Library Mailroom in the Rockefeller Library: Supports the moving and storage of library physical materials and mail to and from 10 Park Lane and on campus Library facilities.
Performs Library and warehouse related duties as required by orderly Library operations.
Typical duties could include transport of materials, shipping and receiving and physical storage
preparation throughout Library facilities. Interacts in a courteous and helpful manner in performing the job.


Typical Duties and Responsibilities
Drives delivery vehicles to transport library materials, supplies, and equipment according to established schedules.
Ensure the security and integrity of vehicles and cargo through proper handling and storage protocols.
Operate vehicles safely in full accordance with traffic laws, University policies, and departmental security procedures.
Reports all emergencies, including accidents involving Library vehicles, to immediate supervisor
Delivers and picks up vehicles for periodic scheduled service
Checks safety of delivery vehicles including tire inflation, mirrors, wiper blades, and lights
Assists Library event staff with set up and break down of chairs for events on an occasional basis
Reports all malfunctions of delivery vehicles to the supervisor immediately
Collects bins and book trucks, and loads and transports them via Library vehicles to insure next-day delivery of Library collections to and from all Library locations
Lifts, pushes, and pulls heavy loads on a regular basis.This includes transporting heavily loaded book trucks, moving heavy packages, and arranging stock from cartons to shelves *
Assures security, orderliness and cleanliness of all receiving, storage and stockroom areas within scope of responsibility.Assures proper storage of all materials at all times
Observes proper receiving procedures.This includes checking quantities against purchasing requisitions and refusing deliveries which do not meet established criteria.
Resolves any discrepancies in deliveries and immediately informs supervisor of those discrepancies that cannot be resolved
Receives, sorts and delivers incoming and inter-office mail shipments
Delivers materials to appropriate departments
Packs and prepares outgoing mail shipments and keeps a log of outgoing mail

Fills supply requests from library inventory
Oversees the day-to-day operation of the Rockefeller loading dock and mail room areas. This includes maintaining continuous coverage for shipping and receiving while maintaining security by restricting access through the Rockefeller mail room during business hours
Trains, schedules workflow and directs student assistants
Trains and provides assistance to co-workers
Loads and unloads boxes, bins, book trucks, and other carriers of library materials
Vacuums and cleans materials accessioned into the LCA
Copies and prints duplicate barcodes and affixes to items
Sizes, sorts, counts, and creates batch track worksheets
Folds and assembles trays for use in shelving
Properly handles delicate and fragile materials
Performs library & warehouse related duties as required

Supervisor: Head of Collections Management, Rockefeller Library
Works independently under general direction, makes independent judgments and decisions within the scope of Library policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduate from high school or equivalent, and two years post-secondary education or equivalent experience
Ability to read and write English
Accuracy in counting, weighing and recording data.
Ability to function as an effective member of a team
Ability to interact favorably with the public and coworkers
Excellent communication and customer relation skills
Ability to perform work accurately and at reasonable speed
Must possess and maintain a valid US State issued motor vehicle operators' license.
Experience driving a box or similar size truck is preferred.
Ability to work in multiple locations as directed and assigned by the supervisor
Physical strength and stamina for prolonged standing, lifting and carrying heavy library materials*.
Ability to bend and stoop.


*A three tier book truck empty weighs approximately 62 pounds.
*A three tier single-sided book truck fully loaded weighs approximately 287 pounds.
*A three tier double-sided book truck fully loaded weighs approximately 485 pounds.
*Boxes can weigh up to 50 pounds.
