Library Specialist
Job Description:
Responsible for the overall management of the Library Media Center (LMC), including but not limited to: promotion of literacy, supervision and instruction; oversight of the library collection, equipment, and circulation system; providing assistance to students and staff using and working in the LMC; and developing and promoting community relations. Assists classroom teachers in providing literacy and research enrichment to students.
Must complete DCSD required training for new library staff.

- Ability to bend and lift up to 40 lbs

Position Specific Information (if Applicable):
Responsibilities:
Perform routine tasks such as answering phone calls, maintain a clean and organized library environment, and other necessary tasks
Help plan and participate in special library events (district-wide events and school specific events)
Perform necessary record-keeping for all library resources, including a full inventory of all resources no less than every two years
Schedule and support activities for the library program which may include author days, reading promotions and incentives, and school-wide literacy activities
Manage training, scheduling, and supervising of student assistants/aides and community volunteers in the LMC
Loan library materials such as books, textbooks, and other resources to students, staff, and other DCSD school patrons
Perform other library related duties as assigned or requested
Process returned materials such as books, textbooks, and other resources
Maintain and repair library materials
Duties include instruction, supervision, management, and programming in the Library Media Center
Organize and reshelve returned items
Manage materials using our library management software (Destiny)
Attend District trainings pertaining to the library: Destiny, databases and digital resources, collection development, weeding, purchasing, etc.
Manage loans between DCSD school libraries (ILL loans)
Follow the DCSD media policy and board policies pertaining to the library
Assist classroom teachers in maintaining supportive learning environments in the LMC in accordance with information literacy/research standards and DCSD's priority learning outcomes
Assist students and staff when using print and/or DCSD digital resources
Support DCSD curriculum and reading advocacy; supervise students in the library in conjunction with a licensed teacher
