JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE:  LIBRARY AIDE
REPORTS TO:   LIBRARIAN, DEPARTMENT CHAIR, PRINCIPAL  AND DIRECTOR OF MEDIA SERVICES
JOB GOAL:  ASSIST IN OPERATING THE LIBRARY PROGRAM IN AN ORDERLY BUSINESS LIKE MANNER.
Performance Responsibilities:







  1. The library assistant will adhere to all local, state and federal regulations.
  2. This person will adhere to all rules and regulations set forth by the Poplar Bluff Board of Education.
  3. Knowledge of or willingness to learn library skills.
  4. Have the ability or willingness to learn the content of the library collection.
  5. Be able to interact positively with children.
  6. Be able to communicate clearly with teachers, students, administrators and other staff members.
  7. Be able to read and understand written orders and instructions.
  8. Be able to understand and follow up on oral and telephone messages and instructions.

 
Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assists with completing library cards and catalog cards.
  2. Use good telephone etiquette.
  3. Ability to file.
  4. Be able to use the Dewey Decimal System.
  5. Be able to learn and use the card catalog, whether paper or electronic.
  6. Be able to learn and use the Sears List of Subject Headings.
  7. Have proficiency in basic cataloging of materials.
  8. Understand the checking procedure for library materials, whether paper or electronic.
  9. Understand the processing procedure.
  10. Be able to clean and repair materials.
  11. Be able to pull materials for teacher and classroom use.
  12. Be responsible for any other duties assigned by the elementary librarian or the department chair.
