Job description

Library Desk Attendants will provide customer service to any and all patrons entering the library. They will be trained in how to search and retrieve library items, as well as learning basic reference and research skills. Opportunities for other projects and learned skill sets may be brought up during the course of their employment.


* Work Study is a requirement for any and all applicants.
Library Desk Attendant -
Basic job duties include:
Checking out/in materials to/from patrons
Maintenance of circulation files
Answering circulation desk phone
Preparing carts for shelving
Returning materials to the shelves
Shelf reading
Clean/Dust/Maintain various stack areas
Assist patrons in use of photocopiers, printers, and other in-house equipment
Open and/or close the library in some instances
Assist in the training of other student employees
Other tasks assigned may include:


Processing community borrower applications
Performing searching procedures for missing/not-on-shelf items
Assisting with course reserve processing
Assisting with basic physical labor projects (moving furniture, etc.)
Assisting with book shifting projects
Assisting with the repair of library materials (book repairs, media re-casing, etc.)
Potential to serve on library special-topic committees as needs arise
Library student employees are scheduled on average 10-15 hours per week during the semester. There may be potential for additional hours during open interim and summer sessions.
Library positions may require the ability to push/lift 30+ lbs (shelving books). It may also require dusting and cleaning of shelving areas.
Student scheduling is based upon availability and library open hours.
Current semester library hours are:
M-R 8:00am - 9:00pm
F 8:00am - 4:30pm
Sat 12:00pm - 4:00pm
Sun CLOSED
