Description
This is a year-round, part-time position.
Application deadline is August 9, 2026 with application review beginning August 10, 2026.
Serves as a primary point of contact for library patrons, delivering welcoming, high-quality customer service at public service desks. Assists patrons with circulation, reference, readers' advisory, technology and access to library resources while supporting library programs and daily operations. Assist with hosting and developing pre-planned programs under the direction of a Librarian. Required evening and weekend hours.
Applicants must be able for the following shifts:
Monday-Thursday; 5pm - 8pm
Friday; 3pm - 6pm
A rotating Saturday approximately every 6 weeks from 10am - 2pm is required. On weeks where a Saturday shift is required, one weekday shift will be dropped/modified.
Essential Job Functions

Patron Services and Customer Support
- Staff public service desks providing circulation, reference, reader's advisory, and information services to patrons.
- Assist patrons with locating, accessing and evaluating print and digital resources
- Provide assistance with library equipment, public computers, and other technology.
- Deliver high-quality customer service and respond to patron inquiries and concerns.
- Perform circulation functions including checking materials in and out, renewals, holds, account maintenance, and collection of fees.
- Create and maintain accurate patron records while safeguarding confidential information.
- Reserve meeting rooms and circulate library equipment.
- Promote library collections, services, programs, and community resources.
- Maintain confidentiality of information regarding patrons' use of library materials, programs and services.
Library Operations
- Perform opening and closing procedures.
- Operate the integrated library system and other library technologies, including automated material handling equipment.
- Process payments, issue receipts, and maintain accurate transactional records.
- Follow established City and Library policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Maintain organized, safe, and welcoming public service areas.
Programming and Community Engagement
- Host library programs for patrons of all ages as assigned.
- Assist with planning, preparing, and evaluating programs under the supervision of a Librarian.
- Represent the library in a positive, professional, and inclusive manner while serving diverse community members.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with patrons, coworkers, and community members in-person, over the phone and through email.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Knowledge of library operations, circulation procedures, and public service practices.
- Knowledge of reference interviewing techniques and readers' advisory.
- Work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Manage multiple priorities while adapting to frequent interruptions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, MORE catalog website and library technologies and equipment.
Qualifications & Working Conditions
Minimum
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- One year customer service experience
Preferred
- Post-secondary coursework
- Experience working a library or similar setting
- Bilingual or multilingual communication skills

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment and requires:
- Continuous use of computer equipment while sitting or standing.
- Sufficient mobility to navigate the office environment with ease.

- Occasional lifting, bending, stooping, and retrieving files or boxes weighing up to 25 pounds
- Operation of office equipment involving repetitive hand and finger movements
