Job description

Job Title: Legal Support Specialist II
Location: Houston, TX
Pay: $70,000- $80,000 / Year
Benefits: This position is eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, and 401 (k) benefits.
We are seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join a collaborative team supporting attorneys in a large, fast-paced law firm environment. This position will provide advanced legal and administrative support to multiple attorneys, with a strong focus on litigation and defense-related matters.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide advanced administrative and legal support to attorneys in a fast-paced law firm environment.
  • Prepare, draft, format, edit, and proofread legal documents, pleadings, briefs, memoranda, correspondence, and other materials.
  • Perform advanced legal document formatting using Microsoft Word, including Tables of Contents, Tables of Authorities, cross-referencing, Track Changes, and other advanced features.
  • Draft simple notices and assist with preparation of legal filings.
  • Manage electronic filing of legal documents with state and federal courts, clients, witnesses, and other external parties.
  • UtilizePACER and other legal technology platforms to research, access, and file court-related documents.
  • Manage workflow and prioritize multiple assignments and deadlines while coordinating with attorneys and other support teams.
  • Calendar critical deadlines, court dates, and other action items, ensuring accurate calculations and timely follow-up.
  • Assist with client financial records, accountings, reporting requirements, Bar and Court Admissions, and attorney CLE tracking.
  • Create and edit presentations, spreadsheets, charts, and other materials as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and deliver a high level of service to attorneys, clients, and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of legal support experience within a large law firm required.
  • Defense litigation experience required.
  • Experience supporting approximately 15 attorneys simultaneously or within a similar high-volume environment.
  • PACER experience required.
  • Experience with state and federal electronic filing systems required.
  • Strong legal document formatting, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to remain poised, professional, and tactful in stressful or fast-paced situations.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

Preferred:
  • Bankruptcy experience, particularly within a defense or litigation practice.
  • Experience with advanced legal document formatting and proofreading.
  • Experience with Adobe, Intapp, NetDocuments, and/or Litera.
  • Associate's degree preferred; Bachelor's degree is a plus.
  • Experience mentoring or training other legal support professionals.
  • Familiarity with PowerPoint, graphics, charts, and document presentation.
  • Experience supporting attorneys in a large, multi-office law firm environment.
