Kaempfer Crowell is currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our Litigation and Administrative Practice Group in the Reno office. In this role, you will provide high-quality administrative support to attorneys, professionals, clients and others outside your group as needed to ensure smooth operation of litigation and administrative matters. You will be expected to maintain a positive and high level of professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of your work.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

  • Manage court filings, including e-filing in state (including justice court) and federal courts, including the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals for multiple attorneys with fast-paced litigation and administrative practices.
  • Prepare, format, and proofread correspondence, pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and discovery responses as well as other legal documents.
  • Maintain case files, ensuring all documents are properly organized and up to date.
  • Schedule depositions, hearings, and client meetings, coordinating with courts and opposing counsel as needed.
  • Monitor case deadlines and ensure timely filings.
  • Coordinate and communicate with clients, government agencies, and opposing counsel.
  • Maintain, organize, and manage attorney calendars, schedule meetings, hearings, and other submissions.
  • Support attorneys in preparing for hearings and trials.
  • Assist in preparing trial materials, including exhibits and witness lists.
  • Provide general support, including answering phones, managing mail, and greeting clients.
  • Organize and maintain documents in both paper and electronic filing systems.
  • Manage confidential and sensitive information.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance in the office.
  • Other duties as assigned.

ABOUT YOU:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required and least three years of recent successful relevant experience as a legal assistant, legal secretary, or paralegal in Nevada.
  • Familiarity with Nevada and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and local court rules and procedures.
  • Knowledge of electronic filing systems and procedures in Nevada state and federal courts.
  • Experience with filings and procedures before the Nevada Division of Water Resources and other state administrative agencies is preferred.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of legal terminology and procedures.
  • Ability to adapt to quickly changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in legal research platforms, and legal practice management software including LMS, Compulaw, and Sharepoint.
  • Keen understanding of litigation practice in Nevada courts.
  • Knowledge of laws and legal codes.
  • Perform essential job functions with a high level of accuracy, completeness and legal compliance.
  • Able to work independently as well as in a collaborative, team environment with employees at all levels within the Firm.
  • Able to correctly interpret, explain and apply policies and procedures.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and precisely.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Fully understand and follow verbal and written directions and instructions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, high attention to detail and able to effectively work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Provide effective client service and public relations.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications: Work, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Teams.
  • Experience using legal systems and software platforms.
  • Able to work in office on Monday – Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
  • Must be a bonded Nevada notary with a current and valid appointment. Willing to provide notary bond information to the Firm upon hire.

  • Job tasks may be performed in close physical proximity to other people.
  • Work is typically performed in an office environment while sitting at a computer screen for extended periods.
  • Requires repetitive physical and mental activities.
  • While performing the duties of this job, you may be occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts when working with office machines.
  • You will be required to frequently stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms when working with documents, files, computers, or office machines.
  • This position requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Therefore, exposure to sounds and noise levels may be distracting or uncomfortable.
