Location: Phoenix, AZ (Primarily Virtual / Remote)

Onsite Requirement: In person 4 times per month on scheduled days
Department: Appellate Services Administration (ASA)

Job Description:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Legal Assistant 2 to support Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) within the Appellate Services Administration. This role is responsible for reviewing appeal requests, preparing hearing packets, selecting exhibits, scheduling hearings, maintaining case documentation, and assisting with legal research and customer support.

Key Responsibilities:

Review and verify incoming appeals for accuracy and completeness.
Retrieve and organize legal exhibits for hearings.
Create hearing packets for ALJs and involved parties.
Enter case notes and documentation into case management systems.
Assist ALJs with case research and analysis.
Schedule hearings and process postponements, withdrawals, and other requests.
Upload legal decisions and dispositions for department action.
Identify complex legal issues, jurisdiction concerns, and timeliness of appeals.
Maintain confidential paper and electronic files.
Support customers with elevated docket calls and case-related questions.

Required Skills:

Strong organization and attention to detail.
Knowledge of legal procedures, appeals, and confidential records handling.
Ability to analyze complex case information accurately.
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Ability to multitask and manage competing deadlines.
Proficiency with Google Apps, Adobe Acrobat, and multiple computer systems.
