The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

In support of the Corporate Security mission to compassionately protect and help the people, property, and quality of our health system, together , the Manager, Security will be instrumental in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, patients, physicians, students, vendors and visitors by monitoring and patrolling our facilities.

The Manager demonstrates exceptional customer service while providing assistance with de-escalating to a safe state any disruptive incidents, response to emergencies, and personal protection and traffic and parking control as needed.

The Manager will lead the team of Security Officers, Supervisors, and Leads, providing oversight and directing the daily operations of the team, ensuring operational goals are met.

The Manager will also work with senior leaders on strategic safety needs, organizational planning, and risk assessment.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Baccalaureate degree in psychology, criminal justice, or related field or minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in a healthcare or inpatient psychiatric setting required, or previous law enforcement experience with experience in de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in security with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant management experience in security operations or law enforcement.

  • Knowledge of federal, state and local regulations concerning security, safety and fire protection.

  • Be able to maintain a first aid, CPR, and AED Certification and a de-escalation training certification.

  • Required de-escalation and protective holds skills course completion within sixty (60) days from date of hire.

  • Possession of a valid New Jersey Driver’s License with eligibility to be covered by RWJBH insurance carrier.
  • Ability to acquire certification for de-escalation training within ninety (90) days of hire.

Preferred:

  • Baccalaureate degree in psychology, criminal justice, or related field or minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in a healthcare or inpatient psychiatric setting required, or previous law enforcement experience with experience in de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Membership in International Association of Healthcare Security & Safety
  • A minimum of one (1) year of customer service, security experience, or prior military service.
  • Minimum of 3 years security operations with exposure to behavioral health population.
  • Proficiency in keyboarding/data entry and experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong command over verbal and written communication.
  • Bilingual language skills to effectively communicate with a multilingual community preferred but not required. (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, Polish depending on facility needs.)

Scheduling Requirements

  • Full Time

Essential Functions:

  • Protect life, property, information and reputation by employing situational awareness; monitoring and securing designated entrances/exits; observing flow of employees, patients, physicians, students, vendors and visitors into the facility; verifying credentials and providing directions to authorized areas.
  • Manage day-to-day operation of security duties; which includes emergency management response work schedules, overseeing contract and schedule issues, the site's key system, vehicle assignment, assessment of incident reports including trends, and lost and found system, etc.
  • Provide leadership ensuring adequate security coverage, policy enforcement and performance management.
  • Maintain safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff, and property through visual patrols and proactive presence.
  • Respond to incidents and emergencies, including disturbances, altercations, medical emergencies, fire alarms, infant/child abductions, active threats, missing persons, and other facility emergencies, coordinating with leadership as needed.
  • Control and regulate pedestrian and vehicle traffic, when volume and events require, in an orderly and safe manner.
  • Conduct and oversee investigations of security-related incidents and prepare detailed documentation according to RWJBH policies and procedures.
  • De-escalate disruptive behavior and evaluate and respond in a timely manner to events and incidents in accordance with system policies.
  • Perform safety rounds through designed areas and address concerns immediately as appropriate Inspects facility for fire, safety, and security risks.
  • Train, mentor, and coach new Security Officers during onboarding.
  • Monitor security staff performance and address performance management concerns.
  • Provide real-time management as needs arise, and serve as the primary escalation point.
  • Operate and maintain facility vehicles in accordance with regulatory and policy requirements.
  • Provide safety escorts and assistance to employees, patients and visitors.
  • Deal discreetly with sensitive, confidential information.
  • Assist Administration and Safety Officer in formulating and implementing department policies and procedures.
  • Act as a liaison with other departments, government agencies and outside companies.
  • Provide support to staff for Emergency Management training and assessment.
  • Assist in the management of staff scheduling and shift coverage as needed.
  • Provide supervisory coverage as needed when the supervisor is not present.
  • Strong leadership and risk management expertise.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage crisis, remaining calm under pressure to lead incident response.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (i,e verbal, written).
  • Must have the ability to function and use sound judgment in high profile situations to include oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to tactfully explain and effectively enforce all security regulations.
  • Data entry skills; experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to remain stationary for up to 8 hours.
  • In addition, the person in this position must have the ability to walk throughout facility between 6-8 hours per day, dependent upon shift.
  • Must be able to hear at least 40 decibels in either ear with or without hearing aid,
  • Oversee and enforce facility access control policy and parking regulations.
  • Respond to emergencies, participating in crisis de-escalation using certified training techniques.
