Summary of Position
Assist classroom teacher in preparing and maintaining a safe learning environment, setting up centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies. Conduct group time, small groups, center time and outside activities. Substitute for absent teachers and provide extra help in classrooms as needed. Know and follow all Texas Minimum Standards for Licensed Childcare Centers as well as policies and procedures of CTC Child Development Lab School.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED required AND one semester of lab experience in a lab school OR 6 months working with children (0-5 years) in a licensed child care facility required.
If you have lab experience, your transcripts must be uploaded to show the courses completed
6 hours of Child Development/Early Childhood courses from a nationally, regionally or identified at the state level accredited institution of higher education desired
Knowledge Skills and Ability
  • Ability to maintain a safe and healthy environment for the children.
  • Knowledge of child growth and development.
  • Ability to understand and provide developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Ability to work with administrators, co-workers, students, parents and children.
  • Know and carry out requirements of the Texas Minimum Standards for Licensed Childcare and NAEYC Standards.
  • Must be in good physical and emotional health to work with small children.
  • Know and follow all requirements from CTC Employee Handbook relating to care of the children.

Essential Functions
  • Supervise all aspects of classroom and playground to maintain as safe and healthy an environment as the teacher. •
  • Promote healthy physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development of each child. •
  • Treat children with dignity and respect. •
  • Consistently follow the classroom teacher's schedule, routines, rules and guidance techniques.•
  • Carry out teacher's curriculum in all areas; music, art, literacy, math, science and social studies.
  • Help prepare learning environment, materials and supplies and set up interest centers.•
  • Interact during all activities. •
  • Become aware of each child's interest, abilities, and developmental level and encourage appropriate activities. •
  • Refer parents to lead teachers for questions or concerns dealing with children's needs, behaviors and special instructions. •
  • Maintain confidentiality and high standards of professional attitudes, ethics, loyalty, and confidentiality in regard to children, parents, and staff. •
  • Notify Center Director as early as possible for necessary absences or unavailability.
Must obtain CPR and First Aid Certification. Must be able to obtain a clear Criminal History and Background Check and clear FBI /Fingerprinting Check
