Job description

Position Purpose

The role of Information Technology is to provide timely, secure, accurate information, information support and information technology to facilitate our integrated business model. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of the end-user training as part of the successful implementation of the electronic medical record for a specific Operational Unit with a clinical focus.

This position is required to remain current with ongoing healthcare industry advancement and IT functions. This position will serve as the primary clinical contact for external users for designated product(s) and will assist in leading large projects.

Nature and Scope

The incumbent in this position has a mastery of the electronic medical record application and the Operational Unit specific workflows. The Principal Trainer is a member of the Application Team.

Responsibilities:

• Participates in workflow design and system build to gain an understanding of why the application has been built to work as it does.

• Responsible for building, testing, and maintaining the training environment.

• Leads vertical customers and consensus building activities of end-users, operational leaders, physicians, and designated staff for the purpose of end-user application implementation.

• Performs advanced level curriculum development, documentation and implementation assignments/projects based on deep knowledge of application and clinical operational requirements.

• Initiates, facilitates, or leads meetings with end-user/business owner and supports work/projects in the absence of the Team Lead/Manager.

• Participates within appropriate governance bodies to advance recommendations as necessary and attends/represents on various IT/operational related committees.

• Provide the highest-level clinical expertise in design integration and touch points with other Epic modules or applications.

• Serve as a clinical expert to team members, other IT personnel, and end-users/business owners, as necessary.

• Demonstrates the ability to work on multiple and more complex tasks with high quality results and adherence to deadlines.

• Analyze training resource availability and adjust schedules accordingly to accommodate customer requests and changes.

• Implement training plan using flexible training methods and tools in order to meet the varying ways that audiences learn and accommodate those learning styles.

• Collect information regarding potential system enhancement needs and analyze new functionality in releases to determine what training will be required.

• Maintain a familiarity with the installed applications in order to provide ongoing education and direction in the effective use and continued growth of the electronic medical record.

Project Management:

• Maintain regular communication with Project Managers, vendors, and customers.

• Perform analysis of workflows, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with assigned software/hardware used with some supervision.

• Work directly (virtually) with customers to evaluate training needs and determine methods for accomplishing goals

Teamwork, Collaboration, Professionalism, and Leadership:

• Facilitate meetings with end-users/business owners and provide updates to team as appropriate.

• Collaborate with other trainers to ensure the overall consistency and effectiveness of training.

• Work independently on tasks, as appropriate.

• Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

• Demonstrate the ability to manage workload independently, as well as part of a team.

• Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring to peers and assist with on-boarding processes for new employees.

Training methods and tools will be flexible in order to meet the varying ways that audiences learn and accommodate those learning styles.

Principal Trainers will train the additional trainers in the business operations. Principal Trainers will collaborate with other trainers to ensure the overall consistency and effectiveness of training. The Principal Trainer will document the electronic medical record system functionality related policies and procedures in conjunction with the training materials. They will create and implement a training plan. They will work with the Training Coordinator to analyze training resource availability. They will adhere to project and training plan timelines. They will maintain a familiarity with the installed applications to provide ongoing education and direction in the effective use and continued growth of the electronic medical record.

1. Skilled in adult education techniques and the principles of adult learning.

2. Employ creative approaches to training content delivery, such as simulations, cases, web-based delivery, or other methodologies.

3. Must be collaborator and a forward/big-picture thinker. Must be a visionary who can imagine the possibilities of a health system-wide integrated electronic medical record and the potential benefits of this software application.

4. Participate in data gathering, workflow documentation and process/practice redesign efforts.

5. Exceptional communication and organizational skills.

6. Ability to create and maintain databases.

7. Ability to articulate technical and end-user needs in a concise and easily understood manner.

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Appropriate education to obtain and maintain state of Nevada Registered Nursing License.

Experience:

3+ years of health care experience in a position of increasing responsibility, including experience with the Electronic Medical Record, leading organizational change, in developing positive rapport with staff members who may be resistant to change, and in motivating others to complete their tasks in a timely manner strongly preferred.

3+ years in healthcare application training or education required. Experience with an electronic medical record product preferred. Training of a technology that fundamentally changed clinical practice preferred. Familiarity with Articulate, or similar web/Computer based training tools preferred.

License(s):

Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Registered Nurse license required at time of hire.

Certification(s):

Ability to obtain and maintain EPIC EMR Certification(s) or Accreditation(s) required within 1 year of hire.

Computer / Typing:

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Type 30-60 WPM.
