About the Role:
As an Electrical Designer at PFL Engineering, you’ll start your career in a collaborative environment focused on production efficiency, constructability, and real-world application. You’ll support senior engineers in the design of electrical systems for multifamily, hospitality, retail, and commercial projects, gaining hands-on experience while learning our production-focused approach to design.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting and BIM Modeling: Develop and update electrical drawings and BIM models in Revit, ensuring accuracy, coordination, and adherence to company standards.
  • Assist in Detailed Building Design: Support the design of lighting, power systems, HVAC power, single-line diagrams, lighting controls, fire alarms, communications, and security systems.
  • Support Quality Assurance: Ensure designs meet company standards and comply with industry codes and local requirements.
  • Participate in Learning & Development: Engage in continuous learning and contribute to improving our internal standards and documentation.
  • Grow with the Team: Work alongside senior engineers and mentors to gain the knowledge and experience needed to advance into higher levels of responsibility.

This position is based in the office at our Nampa, Idaho, location to foster collaboration, mentorship, and professional growth.

Career Progression:

As you grow in this role, you’ll advance through a defined professional path within the engineering discipline:

  • Engineering Designer (0–4 years): Support design and documentation under supervision; develop proficiency in Revit, coordination, and mechanical and plumbing calculations.
  • Project Engineer (4–10 years): Lead project execution, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and mentor junior staff. Professional licensure is typically achieved before or early in this stage.
  • Engineer of Record (10+ years): Take ownership of design quality, compliance, and technical leadership for assigned projects. Advancement to this level is based on demonstrated capability, judgment, and readiness to assume greater responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET-accredited university
  • Experience: 0 to 2 years of building design experience.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with Revit and Bluebeam.
  • Code Knowledge: Basic understanding of industry codes, including the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) and International Building Code (IBC).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Building Design: Experience with or interest in building design.
  • Applied Engineering: Experience with or exposure to translating design concepts into practical, buildable solutions.
