Position Summary

PG&E is seeking an Expert Technical Lead to serve as the primary technical authority and resident subject matter expert (SME) for the BigID platform, including BigID Core (deployed on PG&Emanaged AWS infrastructure with onpremises remote scanners) and the BigID Privacy Portal (SaaS).

This role is responsible for providing technical leadership, architectural guidance, and longterm platform strategy for the BigID ecosystem. The successful candidate will act as the technical liaison with the BigID vendor, guide the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) support team, and ensure the platform is scalable, secure, and aligned with PG&E's privacy, compliance, and cloud standards.

The ideal candidate is a handson technical leader with deep experience in AWS, APIs, scripting, containerized workloads, and data platforms, and a strong understanding of how enterprise systems store, expose, and classify data.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and Oakland, CA approximately once per week, or more, based on business needs or company requirements.

Job Responsibilities

Platform Ownership & Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the primary technical owner and SME for BigID Core and BigID Privacy Portal across production and nonproduction environments.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the endtoend BigID architecture, including AWShosted components, onprem remote scanners, SaaS integrations, and data flows.
  • Provide technical direction and design guidance for enhancements, upgrades, integrations, and new BigID capabilities.
  • Act as the final technical escalation point for complex platform issues beyond standard O&M support.

AWS & Cloud Architecture

  • Lead and support BigID Core deployments on PG&Emanaged AWS infrastructure, including compute, networking, security, and scalability considerations.
  • Design and review infrastructure using AWS Cloud Formation templates and infrastructureascode best practices.
  • Work with containerized workloads using ECS Fargate and/or EKS (Kubernetes) and Docker.
  • Support and optimize use of AWS services including IAM, Security Groups, Load Balancers, Route 53, and CodePipeline.
  • Ensure platform alignment with PG&E cloud security and compliance standards.

Integrations & API Enablement

  • Lead design and troubleshooting of APIbased integrations between BigID and enterprise systems (databases, applications, SaaS platforms, and custom systems).
  • Design, develop, and maintain medium to complex APIs to support data ingestion, automation, and downstream workflows.
  • Provide technical guidance on authentication, authorization, and secure API patterns.
  • Support integration patterns for structured and unstructured data sources.

Data & Discovery Expertise

  • Provide expertise on data discovery concepts, including structured vs. unstructured data, data classification, and scan result interpretation.
  • Understand and guide how BigID scans and interprets data across platforms such as Oracle, SQL databases, SharePoint, and other enterprise repositories.
  • Partner with Privacy and Compliance stakeholders to translate regulatory requirements into technical platform capabilities.

Operations & Maintenance Enablement

  • Provide technical oversight and mentoring to the O&M team supporting BigID operations.
  • Define support standards, runbooks, and operational best practices in collaboration with O&M teams.
  • Review operational changes to ensure stability, security, and scalability.
  • Enable proactive issue detection and longterm platform health.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the primary technical liaison with the BigID vendor, including support escalations, roadmap discussions, and architectural reviews.
  • Evaluate vendor recommendations and align them with PG&E's technical, security, and operational standards.
  • Collaborate with internal teams across Privacy, Security, Infrastructure, and Application teams to ensure successful platform outcomes.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in programming language, advanced
  • Experience in programming analysis, 7 years

Desired:

  • 5-7+ years of handson experience with AWS services, including compute, networking, security, and IAM.
  • Strong experience with CloudFormation templates and infrastructureascode.
  • Handson experience with ECS Fargate and/or EKS (Kubernetes).
  • Expertise in Docker and containerized application design.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, including AWS CodePipeline or equivalent tools.
  • Strong understanding of IAM roles, security groups, load balancers, and Route 53.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (AWS or nonAWS).
  • Experience supporting privacy, data discovery, or governance platforms in regulated enterprise environments.
  • Experience working in hybrid architectures (cloud + onprem).
  • Familiarity with privacy regulations (CCPA, CPRA, GDPR) from a technical enablement perspective.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and stakeholdermanagement skills.

Programming & Scripting

  • Strong proficiency in Bash scripting and Python.
  • Experience with Java (version 8 and above) and Spring Boot.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing API integrations.
  • Ability to write and maintain medium to complex APIs.

Data & Platform Knowledge

  • 8-10+ years of experience with database concepts, including how data is stored and accessed.
  • Strong understanding of structured vs. unstructured data.
  • Conceptual understanding of database platforms such as Oracle, SQL databases, SharePoint, and similar systems.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data discovery and scan results.

Tools & Platforms

  • 3-5+ years of experience working with one or more of the following platforms:
    • BigID
    • Collibra

Compensation

PG&E is providing the full salary/pay range for this position.  The actual amount paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, internal equity, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, and geographic location.  The range to reasonably expect will be between the minimum and midpoint listed below.  The final decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to the factors above. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs. 

Bay Area Min: $128,000.00

Bay Area Mid: $173,000.00

Bay Area Max: $218,000.00
