The English Language Development (ELD) Teacher advances English language acquisition and academic achievement for multilingual learners in grades K-6 by delivering specialized instruction, fostering equitable access to learning, and building meaningful partnerships with students, families, and educators. Through data-informed decision making, collaboration, and targeted language supports, the ELD Teacher empowers students to develop language proficiency and successfully engage in the academic program. This role serves as an instructional leader, advocate, and resource for multilingual learners while ensuring high-quality services and compliance with applicable federal, state, and school requirements within a virtual learning environment.
This is a 10 month, full-time position. Ability to work independently, typically 40 hours per week is required. Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 8-4 or as defined by the school.
Residency Requirement: Resident of Pennsylvania; residents of other states will be considered on a case by case basis.

Essential Functions
- Accelerate English language acquisition and academic achievement for multilingual learners through high-quality instruction, targeted supports, and meaningful learning experiences.
- Foster equitable access to curriculum, instruction, and school opportunities by identifying and addressing language-related barriers to student success.
- Use language proficiency, academic, attendance, and engagement data to inform instructional decisions, monitor student growth, and adjust supports to maximize outcomes.
- Ensure multilingual learners receive appropriate identification, assessment, monitoring, and language development services through effective implementation of federal, state, and school requirements.
- Strengthen the school's capacity to serve multilingual learners by partnering with educators, providing consultation, and promoting effective language development practices across all learning environments.
- Build educator capacity through coaching, professional learning, and technical assistance focused on language acquisition, culturally responsive practices, and effective support for multilingual learners.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of multilingual learner programs by evaluating outcomes, identifying opportunities for growth, and supporting implementation of effective practices.
- Cultivate meaningful partnerships with students and families that strengthen engagement, support student achievement, and promote a sense of belonging within the school community.
- Facilitate clear and accessible communication for multilingual families, including coordination of translation and interpretation services when needed.
- Leverage instructional resources, technology, and innovative practices to create engaging, accessible, and student-centered learning environments.
- Maintain accurate documentation, records, and reporting requirements that support student services, program effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.
- Establish collaborative relationships with colleagues, families, and stakeholders that advance student success and support the mission and goals of the school.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives and organizational priorities in support of student achievement, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no regular supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Education AND
- 1-3 years of experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or in a brick and mortar environment OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
All PDE required clearances for school-based personnel
Minimum Required Skill Set
- Great organizational and time management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Adaptable technology skills
- Experience using search engines (internet) for research projects
- Experience using a student information system and/or other type of database
Demonstrated competencies with general technology, Microsoft Office Platforms (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, etc.), Google Platforms, Zoom, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Education or related field
- Experience with charter and/or online school environment
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology
- Ability to learn new technologies and tools
- Proficient in principles, theories, practices, methods and techniques used in curriculum development and classroom instruction for English Language Learners (ELD)
- Experience working in a home environment full time
Certificates and Licenses
- Active PDE Instructional I or Instructional II certification AND/OR
A PDE ESL Program Specialist certificate is required for an assignment for which no active instructional, educational specialist, supervisor or administrative certificate exists

- This is a home-based position. When office days are required, the noise level in the office is usually moderate (computers, printers, light foot traffic).
This position will include limited travel and will include limited overnight travel. This is estimated to be less than 20% of the time. Travel will be required for community events, PD and state testing.
