The Medical Laboratory Technician will support the Department of Pathology and Ancillary Laboratory Services (DPALS) at Brook Army Medical Center (BAMC) at Joint Base San Antonio, located at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Responsibilities
- Perform a full range of high-complexity clinical laboratory tests (qualitative and quantitative) in any one or a combination of the following sections of the laboratory: hematology, chemistry, cytology, histotechnology, urinalysis, serology, microbiology and blood bank.
- Ensure accurate specimen processing.
- Efficiently receive, process, and prepare patient specimens for analysis, minimizing delays and preventing errors that could impact patient care.
- Ensures timely and accurate testing.
- Deliver reliable laboratory testing.Â
- Perform a wide range of essential laboratory tests (hematology, chemistry, microbiology, etc.) according to established standards, providing critical data for diagnosis and treatment decisions.
- Ensure results are accurate and reliable, leading to improved patient outcomes.
- Prepare specimens for transport to MTF laboratory or for mail out.
- Maintain laboratory equipment readiness.Â
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance and minimizing downtime.
- Uphold quality control and assurance.Â
- Implement rigorous quality control procedures, validate test results, and identify potential errors, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory data.

Qualifications
- Graduate from a medical laboratory technician training program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or educational program acceptable to the American Medical Technologist (AMT). Medical Laboratory Technicians will meet necessary Continuing Education (CE) requirements.
- Associate’s Degree certificate in: Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Medical Technologist (MT)
- Possess and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Possess and maintain registration/certification through ASCP or AMT
- Minimum one (1) year experience within the last two (2) years post graduation as a medical laboratory technician.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Possess attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite
